The Alabaster Water Department joined the list of Alabama cities that have discontinued adding fluoride to a public drinking water system this week. The Alabaster Water Department said in a statement on Facebook June 8, that the decision was made after an evaluation of employee safety, equipment maintenance requirements, chemical handling procedures and long-term infrastructure needs for the fluoridation system. "Fluoride is not used as part of the water treatment or disinfection process.

This Alabama city made more than half a million dollars from traffic cameras this year

So far this year, the city of Center Point has generated more than $500,000 in traffic camera citations, according to Mayor Bobby Scott Jr. The city operates five traffic cameras, three that monitor speed and two at stop signs. The citations have been a controversial topic among drivers for more than a decade. But Scott said the camera's revenue will help to build the city's police department, a goal that has been in the works for years.
