My name is Alejandro Melgar, and I am an online reporter in Calgary, Alta.

I studied at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) and received my diploma in journalism with honours in the spring of 2022.

I have reported and shot photos for LiveWire Calgary during my practicum, the SAIT paper turned club The Emery Weal, and CityNews Calgary and other markets with CityNews.

For years, the owner of Dreams Transportation in Calgary, Will Garth, has battled catalytic converter thieves. But in mid-June, the situation hit a breaking point. "Right in the daylight with all the people around ya, it's a daunting kind of thing," he told CityNews. At around 10:20 a.m. on June 15, one of the company's drivers was parked in a busy northeast Calgary lot between runs, sitting in the back of her bus reading. She heard a noise and assumed someone nearby was inflating a tire.

Driver in hospital after crashing into parked vehicles

By Alejandro Melgar A driver is in critical condition after crashing their vehicle into three parked vehicles in southeast Calgary Wednesday, police say. It happened just after 3:30 a.m. at the 2500 block of 26 Street SE in the Southview area. Officers say the driver was rushed to hospital in critical condition. No other injuries have been reported. Meanwhile, roads are closed in both directions on 26 Street between 24 Avenue and 28 Avenue while police investigate. ???? ROAD CLOSURE ????
