Potentially, a great deal… An ill-advised loan can result in severe UK tax consequences for both the beneficiary and the trustees, and the traps are more numerous than many trustees realise. Loans within trust structures take many forms. Trustees may lend to beneficiaries, to settlors, to underlying companies, or to other trusts.
