'Formaldehyde cabbage' scandal sparks food safety concerns in China and beyond

Chinese authorities confirmed earlier this week that several Napa cabbages from China's largest cabbage producing region had tested positive for traces of the cancer-causing chemical formaldehyde. The colourless toxin is often used in embalming to slow down decomposition and has now been found in cabbages, reportedly to keep the veggies fresh during transport in warm summer and autumn months.

Program: Nepal-Tibet flood rescue operations interrupted

There are reports rescue operations were put on hold in Nepal and Tibet this afternoon because of fears more flooding was on the way. The ABC's China correspondent says Chinese authorities have been meeting to discuss the situation. And they are censoring information about the scale of the disaster and refusing access to Tibet to foreign journalists.
