Author Interview: Katie Holt
LibraryThing is pleased to sit down this month with author and romance enthusiast Katie Holt, whose 2024 debut, Not In My Book, follows the stormy relationship between a romance novelist and a literary author who are forced to work together on a book. A New York City resident and Tennessee native, Holt earned her degree in English and Creative Writing at NYU, while working at famed Manhattan bookstore, The Strand. When not writing, she works at St. Martin’s Press as an assistant editor.
A LITTLE BUZZED | Kirkus Reviews
A warm and winning "When Harry Met Sally…" update that hits all the perfect notes. A travel writer has one last shot at reconnecting with the best friend she just might be in love with. Poppy and Alex couldn't be more different. She loves wearing bright colors while he prefers khakis and a T-shirt. She likes just about everything while he’s a bit more discerning. And yet, their opposites-attract friendship works because they love each other…in a totally platonic way. Probably.

Janeway, Fair Haven and the Romantic Making of A Heroine
In a genre as vast, and intellectually and artistically curious as science-fiction the possibilities for plot lines are as endless as the various universes one can create. With an exponential number of lanes to explore, the chances are that any long-running series will produce a few episodes that reach a certain level of infamy within the fandom.
How SCREAM Betrays the Hope of the Final Girl
One of the prevailing theories about the popularity of 1996’s Scream is that, for the first time in a long time, the writing, acting, and directing all worked in perfect harmony to create a cast of characters that the audience rooted for, not against. Instead of relying on previous genre conventions and creating empty characters the audience would want to see die in increasingly gruesome and inventive ways, Scream does something different.
Review: Home at Summer's End by Alys Murray (Kritters Ramblings)
Home at Summer's End by Alys Murray Publisher: Bookouture Pages: 249 Format: eARC Buy the Book: Amazon Goodreads: Rose Anderson is done with being known as “the nice one” in the small town in Northern California where she lives. She’s done with playing third, fifth, seventh wheel at loud gatherings on her family’s flower farm. And most of all, she is done with the pitying looks and well-meaning comments she gets about her single status from the way-too-interested townsfolk.

The Perfect Hideaway by Alys Murray Publisher: Bookouture Pages: 247 Format: eARC Buy the Book: Amazon Goodreads: Annie Martin is thrilled to have moved from the hectic buzz of L.A. to the small town of Hillsboro, Northern California, where the most happening bar only plays honky-tonk and nowhere does a good matcha latte. But the best thing about Hillsboro? The Anderson sisters. At their noisy family dinners, Annie can almost forget the mistakes she made back in the city, trying to fit in.
Love That Villain? Try This Romance!
If you love any of the above, you’ll love Villain Lover! I wrote Villain Lover because I, well, love villains! But I also love watching them become heroes. And what could be sexier than that?
Escapism, Romance, and the Ecstasy of Writing Plus-Size Characters
CW: Eating Disorder For me, one of the great things about reading romance is the element of escapism. I love being whisked away into someone else’s love story. Experiencing another person’s world, another person’s relationships, and another person’s life has always been one of my favorite aspects of the genre. When I first started reading romance, this was one of my primary reasons for going back to the genre over and over again.
