The weekend picks up where the work week left off as multiple cold fronts drift over much of the central and eastern U.S., creating rain and thunderstorm chances. Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevails in the West. Saturday A stationary front will remain draped over the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. The best chance for rain and thunderstorms will occur along this front from the central/southern High Plains into Tennessee Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

For the 250th anniversary of our nation, Independence Day fireworks won’t be the only light show in the sky. Mother Nature will be providing plenty of natural fireworks for much of the U.S. A stalled cold front will be draped from the north-central U.S. into the Northeast on the Fourth of July, which will slowly inch south through the evening. There will also be an expansive high pressure system centered over the Southeast.

An upper-level weather system will stall over the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. this weekend, bringing a cooling trend and stormy weather. Meanwhile, the West will bake in dry, unseasonably hot conditions. Saturday This upper-level low pressure system will spin over southeastern Canada and the Great Lakes to start the weekend. This will drag a cold front through the Midwest into the south-central U.S. There will also be a nearly stationary front draped over the Southeast.
