Data released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) on September 1 showed that domestic biofuel producers used a record 1.56 billion pounds of soybean oil throughout June, up by 9% from the previous high of 1.43 billion pounds recorded in May. The figure was also 49% higher year on year, compared with 1.043 billion pounds used in June 2025. The US biodiesel sector consumed 790 million pounds of soybean oil in June, up by 5.8% on the month from 747 million pounds in May.

While certain quarters of the market continue to insist that fats and oils prices are ripe to rebound, with underlying demand robust amid lagging renewable volume obligations (RVOs), seasonal summer trading patterns outweighed any underlying fundamental strength over the period.

All in all, the biofuel sector consumed a record 1.43 billion lbs of soybean oil in May, up by 17% from the 1.22 billion lbs of soybean oil used in Apri, according to data released by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) on Friday July 31. US renewable diesel producers used 687 million lbs of soybean oil, increasing by 28% from 537 million lbs in April, while biodiesel producers used 747 million lbs of soybean oil, up by about 9% from 686 million lbs in April.
