This was my first multi-day visit to areas under the control of the Tamil Tigers. It was the first week of April 2002, the rest of Sri Lanka, most of it at least, was getting ready to celebrate the traditional new year and the long holiday. I, on the other hand was laying plans to engage in my first in-depth series of stories from the areas controlled by the Tigers. Before that my experiences in Tiger-held areas had been short visits.
