Amarsanaa Battulga (阿木) is a freelance film critic, programmer, and researcher based in Ulaanbaatar.
He has served on film festival juries at the Locarno Film Festival (2024), the Hong Kong International Film Festival (2025), the Singapore International Film Festival (2025), the Golden Ger International Film Festival (2024), and the Kharkhorum International Film Festival (2025).
As a pre-selector and programmer, he has worked with True/False, Glasgow Shorts, BlackStar, Cambridge, Berlin NewGen, the Chinese Film Festival Hamburg, and the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival.
His writing has appeared in publications such as Die Welt, Cineuropa, photogénie, and Documentary, among others, in English, Chinese, Mongolian, German, and Dutch. He’s a FIPRESCI member, Berlinale Talent Press alumnus, and voter for the 83rd Golden Globes. He worked as the associate editor of ChinaNauts, an online magazine on contemporary China.
When he is not watching, researching, or writing about films, he enjoys playing board games, practicing classical Mongolian, and thinking about going to the gym. He cannot ride a horse.
