GABAA receptor mutations are associated with genetic generalized epilepsy. Genetic deletion of the GABAA worm orthologue, unc-49, exhibits functional defects including an increase in seizure-like convulsions. The human GABAA receptor can partially functionally replace unc-49. Epilepsy-associated variants of GABAA have functional defects including an increase in seizure-like convulsions. C. elegans are an inexpensive in vivo model to investigate GABAA receptor mutations and epilepsy in general.

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) was created with funding from Unitaid and is an organization that oversees licensing of medicines and health technologies with the aim of increasing access to and facilitating development of medicines—including HIV, hepatitis C, tuberculosis and COVID-19 treatments—for people living in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). MPP’s purpose is to sublicense the medicines and health technologies as a public health measure in order to accomplish the aims of Unitaid.

As we take stock of this year-like-no-other, Child Care Aware® of America (CCAoA) sees a glimmer of hope in all of the destruction and reflection wrought by COVID-19 and yet another racial reckoning for our nation. This glimmer of hope is the chance to completely rebuild our child care system. Today, CCAoA releases bold new ideas to help policymakers, advocates, parents, providers and employers create an equitable, transformed child care system in 2021 and beyond.
