Nationwide recycled steel slag pavements can stimulate sustainable urban transportation
Abstract Urban road expansion supports economic growth but also locks in emissions and resource demand. A bottom-up, high-resolution framework was developed to assess national-scale climate, health and economic impacts of recycled steel slag pavements. Taking China as a representative case, the framework integrates pavement degradation with nationwide data on traffic demand, road networks, and steel slag availability to evaluate renovation and cross-regional allocation strategies.

Estimating vehicular emissions by applying deep learning on video camera scenes
Abstract Despite advances in electrification, urban traffic remains a substantial source of air pollution and poses a major threat to public health. Addressing the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of vehicular emissions requires scalable methodologies. Here, we present a deep learning-based framework that analyzes street video footage to derive vehicle-resolved emission estimates for high-resolution urban monitoring.
Extracting fine topological features of high-dimensional fields in structured light
Topological invariants play a central role in structured light, providing robust, discrete descriptors of complex optical fields. In an effort to systematically expand such invariants, we detail and generalize two complementary mechanisms for extracting lower-dimensional components of a higher-dimensional field: one associated with phase vortices, in which a gauge structure is relevant, and one based on polarization, for which it is not.
CellCover defines marker gene panels capturing developmental progression in neocortical neural stem cell identity
eLife Assessment This study offers a valuable methodological advance by introducing a gene panel selection approach that captures combinatorial specificity to define cell identity. The findings address key limitations of current single-gene marker methods. The evidence is compelling, but would be strengthened by further validation of rare cell states and unexpected marker categories.
A synthetic virus-like assembly unlocks dual-antigen presentation for broad-spectrum anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunity

Development and validation of novel prognostic hepatic-cardiac index and hemodynamic prediction models in pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension patients
Abstract Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a life-threatening disorder marked by progressive elevation of pulmonary vascular resistance and ultimate right heart failure. Its diagnosis and risk stratification largely depend on invasive right heart catheterization (RHC). This study aimed to integrate routine laboratory and echocardiographic data to develop a novel multi-organ prognostic indicator and construct non-invasive hemodynamic estimation prediction models.
Redefining topological robustness in optical polarization fields through a generalized skyrmion number
Abstract Skyrmions are important topologically non-trivial fields characteristic of models spanning scales from the microscopic to the cosmological. However, the skyrmion number can only be defined for fields with specific boundary conditions, limiting its use in broader contexts. Here, we address this issue through a generalized notion of the skyrmion derived from the de Rham cohomology of compactly supported forms.
Uncertainty-driven statistical stopping method for single-band infrared thermometry of aluminum alloy ring forgings
Under single-band infrared measurement conditions, strong coupling exists between temperature and emissivity for aluminum alloys, and the lack of a statistically interpretable stopping criterion limits the stability and reliability of inversion results.
Condition-Associated Pattern Extraction and Recovery From Multi-Condition Single-Cell RNA-seq Data With CAPER
1 Introduction Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has revolutionized our ability to characterize cellular heterogeneity and dynamic responses in development, disease, and perturbation experiments [1, 2]. A growing number of studies involve multi-condition designs, e.g., comparing control and diseased tissue or stimulated and control cells, to identify the cellular and molecular responses of biological processes [3-5].
Skyrmions based on optical anisotropy for topological encoding
Abstract The observation of skyrmions across diverse physical domains suggests that they are universal features of \({S}^{2}\)-valued fields, reflecting the ubiquity of topology in the study of the natural world. In this paper, we develop an abstract technique of parameter space dimensionality reduction that extends the skyrmion framework to fields taking values in manifolds of dimension greater than 2, thereby broadening the range of systems that can support skyrmions.
Spatial single-cell landscape of tumor-associated macrophages and their crosstalk with the tumor microenvironment
Abstract Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) constitute a critical immune cell population within the tumor microenvironment (TME) and exhibit high functional heterogeneity. In this study, a pan-cancer atlas comprising 28 TAM subtypes was systematically constructed by integrating single-cell transcriptomic and spatial transcriptomic data from 291 human samples across 16 cancer types.
Ubiquitous data-driven framework for traffic emission estimation and policy evaluation
Abstract Quantifying urban traffic emission dynamics is critical for evaluating decarbonization policies, yet existing models often lack resolution, timeliness or scalability. Ubiquitous urban data offer new opportunities for large-scale, fine-grained and near-real-time emission estimation. Here we present a data-driven framework that integrates traffic camera footage with mobile phone data to estimate citywide vehicular emissions.
Disentangling Near-Road Emission Inequities in Hong Kong through Data-Driven Spatiotemporal Traffic Dynamics
Abstract Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Traffic emissions contribute disproportionately to exposure inequities in dense cities. Delivery fleets and public buses can intensify these burdens in vulnerable communities, yet most assessments overlook such dynamics by aggregating fleets into broad categories and averaging across the day. This obscures when and which vehicles drive inequities.

Graph theory based approach to identify phase transitions in condensed matter
We put forward a methodology to identify phase transitions in condensed matter without the need to rely on any preexisting physical background. Specifically, we use graph limit theory to construct order parameters that leverage the outcomes of molecular dynamics simulations. We apply this approach to investigate the phase transitions of a Lennard-Jones system and the glass-forming ability of the Kob-Andersen binary Lennard-Jones mixture.

Topological protection of optical skyrmions through complex media - Light: Science & Applications
Abstract Optical Skyrmions have many important properties that make them ideal units for high-density data applications, including the ability to carry digital information through a discrete topological number and the independence of spatially varying polarization to other dimensions. More importantly, the topological nature of the optical Skyrmion heuristically suggests a strong degree of robustness to perturbations, which is crucial for reliably carrying information in noisy environments.
