Lessons Learned – Andie’s Cancer Journal
When I was a kid, that was obvious. In my 20s, I thought, "When I'm in my 30s, I'll know everything." And when I was in my 30s, I thought I knew everything! When I hit 40, the realization hit me that I was a fool. Now that I'm in my 50s, I crave every lesson life has to teach me. I'm a sponge, just soaking it all in and trying to put it all to good use. It enriches my life in ways I never could have imagined in the decades before.
Lessons Learned – Andie’s Cancer Journal
Life offers so many lessons. Which is something I just learned, believe it or not. Cancer is a Full Time Job – Andie’s Cancer Journal
On Monday, I drove an hour each way for a follow-up appointment. This is now a weekly occurrence. Sometimes twice a week. While I was there, I found out that the infection I’ve been fighting for more than a week has apparently decided to make itself right at home in my body. Yesterday, I went to the facility where I’ll eventually be receiving my chemotherapy infusions. My treatment has been delayed because of the infection.
Cancer is a Full Time Job – Andie’s Cancer Journal
Sure. I have a full-time job and full time obligations - but now I have two. Radio personality. Mom. Wife. And apparently, cancer management agency. Thank God for my medical team, because I couldn’t navigate this without them. But even with their help, it is still incredibly time-consuming. On Monday, I drove an hour each way for a follow-up appointment. This is now a weekly occurrence. Sometimes twice a week.
Cancer Cancer Cancer
I am my mother’s daughter, my husband’s wife, my kids’ mom. These are all identities that I’m proud of - but there’s one that leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It’s one I didn’t choose, and it stings. I am a cancer patient. Cancer. It’s such a filthy word, isn’t it? It’s a word that makes people uncomfortable and that makes me angry because it gives the word mad power. The last thing a cancer patient wants is for her cancer to gain power. So I say it. I laugh at it. People are dynamic.

The Frightening Truth about Cancer
Do you know what is just as frightening as hearing “you have cancer?” The conversation that comes just before it. “You might have cancer.” That is an uncertain state of affairs that you have to live with, in my case, for weeks. Before you are sure, there is a tug of war happening inside your soul. In one sense, you have a suspicion that it might be true. There's the maybe that hangs over you. Scratch that. The maybe hangs on you like dead weight across your chest. You might have cancer.

Match My Energy. I Have Cancer.
If you get nothing else from this blog, please make sure you are up to date on your annual check-ups. If you wouldn't drive with the engine light blazing on your dashboard, don't ignore your own health. Early detection saves lives. About a month ago I went for my annual mammogram. I've been pretty good about going once a year but life got hectic for me these past couple years and I was late getting checked. It's so easy to put things off for yourself when you're raising a family.
Intern Insights: Rachel's Baptism By Fire
Upon our first meeting, Rachel made it clear that the thing she most hoped to achieve from interning with our show is a boost in her self-confidence. Rachel is smart and talented, but tends to back away from the spotlight. While it is not meant for everyone, there will come a time in everyone's life when all eyes are on them. My team was ready for this challenge and excited to help make her comfortable and confident in her own skin.
Andie's Book Club: 'Run' by Ann Patchett
Have you ever met someone and thought, we’re going to be best friends? Sometimes you just make a connection with another person and realize you align; your attitudes, your principles, your faith. If you are a reader, you might be lucky enough to feel that way about some authors. There are some writers you know you can count on to create something that moves you. That is how I feel about Ann Patchett. My introduction to Patchett came with her 2019 novel The Dutch House.
Andie's Book Club: Theo of Golden by Allen Levi
I'm in awe of Theo - and of his creator Allen Levi. Levi's debut novel is one you'll want to buy so you can travel to Golden again and again. No spoilers in this review. Allen Levi’s Theo of Golden takes your peace to another level. It’s the kind of quiet, soul-restoring story that you’re comfortable living in. It isn’t built on explosive plot twists or high drama; instead, it unfolds through simple, deeply human interactions that reveal the extraordinary impact of kindness.
From VMAs Fallout to Podcast Praise: Is the Taylor Swift-Kanye West Feud Finally Cooling?
We all remember the infamous feud that sparked between Kanye West and Taylor Swift following the 2009 MTV VMAs when Swift was interrupted during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video from her song, “You Belong With Me”. To refresh your memory: West jumped on stage to claim that Beyoncé should have won the award for her “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” music video, not Swift. However, when Beyoncé won Video of the Year, she invited Swift back on stage to finish her speech.
Andie's Book Club: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans
One of my favorite gifts to buy a graduate, whether from high school or college, is personalized stationery. A handwritten note in the mail means so much more than a text or email ever could. You don't have to be a correspondent to make an impression. One note usually does the trick. There’s nothing like opening your mailbox and seeing a letter addressed to you. It gives you a little thrill. Even before you open it, you know it’s not a bill or a credit card application.
Superman Strikes Again: Skippack Pharmacy Gives Away Free Salt Before Winter Storm
As winter storm Fern barreled toward the region and shelves at local hardware stores started looking a little bare, one Pennsylvania business decided to step up in a big way and remind everyone what community really looks like. Ahead of the storm, Skippack Pharmacy turned its parking lot into an impromptu neighborhood lifeline, giving away free road salt to anyone who needed it. No purchase required. No questions asked. Just neighbors helping neighbors. Who? and Why?
Lumière, Madame, and a Subaru Forester: a Real Life Beauty and the Beast Story
Life on the road isn't for the faint of heart. For many performers, the thrill of landing a role on a national tour means living out of suitcases, heartbreaking goodbyes, and months spent away from the comfort of home. For Danny Gardner and Emily Larger, it means something a little different: family dinners on the road, a packed Subaru Forester, and bedtime routines squeezed in between curtain calls when possible.
Andie's Book Club: The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo
Could this be the best book I read all year? It’s going to be hard to beat. The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo tells the story of the Sorenson family - parents Marilyn and David and their four grown daughters - and explores the lives they lead, the secrets they keep, and the love they share that somehow conquers it all. I devour books. I read them on my Kindle and listen to them on Audible while I’m driving, cleaning, cooking, walking the dog, doing laundry … you get the idea.
Vodka Isn’t Just for Cocktails-It Might Be the Ultimate Life Hack
I’m a sucker for a good life hack. I love scrolling through fun TikTok videos where regular people use everyday household items to make their lives easier (and sometimes a little more brilliant). Recently, I read about a delivery driver in Scotland who works on a tight schedule and doesn’t have time to scrape ice off his windshield - something we can all agree is an annoying waste of time. According to the Daily Record, Jack Mentiply has found a clever solution: vodka.

Andie's Book Club: The Room Next Door by Wendy Walker
I love a good audiobook. I listen in the car, while walking the dog, doing the dishes, folding laundry - you get it. I also have a handful of favorite narrators whose names alone can convince me to listen rather than read. So when I saw Julia Whelan listed as a narrator for the thriller The Room Next Door by Wendy Walker, I was all in. The Room Next Door follows a small Connecticut town grappling with not one, but two mysterious deaths - fifteen years apart, almost to the day.
Andie's Book Club: The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
The first book I read by Liz Moore was Long Bright River. If you’ve read my review, you know I didn’t exactly enjoy my time with it - but I also couldn’t deny how well written it was, or how important the story felt. It’s the kind of book that stays with you, whether you like it or not. So yes, I was really excited to pick up Moore’s next novel, The God of the Woods. Going in, I hoped the subject matter wouldn’t be heavier than a missing sister and Philadelphia’s drug crisis. Spoiler: it is.
Andie's Book Club: Nothing Ever Happens Here by Seraphina Nova Glass
Everyone is famous in a small town. You know your neighbors, the butcher, the barber, the mechanic. Most people either grew up together or are raising kids who are growing up together. Life can feel predictable - same faces, same routines - and it’s easy to think, nothing ever happens here. Until it does. Like to read? Check out Andie's Book Club! Nothing Ever Happens Here is set in a small town in Minnesota, where Shelby is brutally attacked at her best friend Mack’s café.
Andie's Book Club: Beach Read by Emily Henry
I guess I’m a sucker for an Emily Henry novel. And I’m okay with that. I find her stories to be well told. Her characters are well-defined and complex. And she’s very good at dangling that carrot just out of reach, so I’m sure that what I think will happen won’t. I mean … no one really wants to know the end before the end, do they? Beach Read by Emily Henry is no different. There are times I love the main characters, January and Gus, individually.
Andie's Book Club: The Love of My After Life by Kirsty Greenwood
The Love of My After Life is a story about making your time on earth count - cherishing your moments and making the most of every breath. It asks the questions we often avoid: What have you done with your life? What will people say about you when you’re gone? What legacy are you leaving behind? They’re big questions, yes, but deeply worth pondering - especially if, like Delphie, you find yourself watching a highlight reel of your life from Heaven’s waiting room.
Andie's Book Club: Heartwood by Amity Gaige
If your book club is looking for its next big thing, Heartwood is it. Author Amity Gaige masters character development. While reading this thriller, you’ll find yourself becoming friends with the characters. The story will take you on an emotional ride and keep your mind wondering where she is now and who is responsible? Heartwood introduces us to three women who are tied to a missing person in one way or another. What I love about Gaige’s story is how she weaves these women through the story.

It's the annual Andie Summers Show Christmas Card Follow-Back. That means you send The Andie Summers Show a holiday card and we'll send you one back to you! Our studio is our home away from home, and we could use some Christmas Cheer. The thing that warms our hearts the most is being surrounded by your love.
Riley Green Among Country Artists to Support Benefit for the Brain
Riley Green, Jon Pardi, and Kassi Ashton join Drake White’s Benefit for the Brain. The event supports mental wellness for our military and veterans, brain health in children, as well as creative approaches to stroke recovery and neurological treatment. The annual event spawned from a life-threatening incident that Drake White experienced in 2019. While he was performing in Roanoke, Virginia, White didn’t feel right.
The Kenny Chesney You Don't Know
Kenny Chesney is a vibe. He is more than a singer, songwriter, and performer. Kenny Chesney has created a lifestyle. And yet, there is so much more to know about the author of Heart. Life. Music. If you have ever attended one of Chesney’s stadium shows, you know the tone is set in the parking lot hours before the gates open. In Philadelphia, cars, trucks, buses, and RVs start lining up for the lots surrounding the stadium as early as 3 am. And once inside, it’s a community of love. Heart. Life. Music.
Andie's Book Club: Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
Are you the kind of person who comments on a Reddit thread? I love Reddit — the questions are vulnerable, the comments are relentless, and the honesty feels addictive. As I’m typing this, I realize Reddit is my Real Housewives. I don’t do reality TV, but give me a messy, heartfelt Reddit thread and I’m hooked. The thing about anonymity online is that it can go one of two ways: you can use it to bravely step out of your comfort zone, or you can use it to tear someone else down.
Why It’s Time to Find a New Hobby - Plus Fun Ideas to Inspire Your Next Hobby Adventure
Hi everyone! Welcome back to Lily’s Inter(N)esting Insights! This week, I am so excited to talk about hobbies - because you need a hobby. And if you already have one, guess what? You might need a new one! There are so many fun hobby options, it’s hard to pick just one! (I bounce around new hobbies quite frequently, so I have a lot of options for you below). Okay, I have to call myself out: by “baking,” I don’t mean I’m hand-making pies from scratch… yet.
Andie's Book Club: Sandwich by Catherine Newman
When my kids were little, I used to dream of the day I’d reclaim my freedom. I’d hear the term “empty nesters” and feel a pang of jealousy. Oh, the places I’d go! But reality looks different. Between juggling their jam-packed schedules, managing my emotions about them leaving, and balancing the needs of aging parents and in-laws, I’ve realized: I am Rocky, straight out of Catherine Newman’s novel Sandwich.
Answers to Radio's Most Asked Questions
I am so excited to say that this is my fourth blog post, which means that I have been interning on The Andie Summers Show for about a month now! Over the past few weeks, I’ve learned a ton and picked up some fun behind-the-scenes knowledge that I want to share with you. 1. What will I do as an intern on The Andie Summers Show?
Andie's Book Club: People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
You know those books that feel less like reading and more like hanging out with friends you secretly wish were yours? Yeah, that’s People We Meet on Vacation. Emily Henry nailed it. And now it's going to be a movie! The story follows Poppy and Alex, two complete opposites who should not work as friends but somehow totally do. She’s the wild, let’s-hop-on-a-plane-to-anywhere type. He’s the khakis-button-down-sensible-shoes type. Yet every summer for a decade, they take a trip together.
Lily's Inter(n)esting Observations
Hi everyone! My name is Lily, and I am the intern at The Andie Summers Show this fall. Something I think you'll find inter(n)esting. From the second that I walked through the doors on my first day, I knew this would be an experience unique from anything I had ever had before. I am so excited to get to share it with you every week! Every day here is different.
Weird but Brilliant Cleaning Hacks
I thrive on life cleaning hacks. I can get lost in videos and on threads that teach me new uses for products I already have in my house - especially when they can be used to clean! I love a clean house. I don’t love cleaning my house. So I am always looking for a hack to make that job easier. Then it turns a tedious chore into something else. I think of it more as a “hack-test.” Does this new hack work?
Andie's Book Club: North Woods by Daniel Mason
I attended an event a couple months ago and sitting at my table were several highly educated, well spoken women who all seemed to agree on their favorite recent read: North Woods by Daniel Mason. They raved about this "Pulitzer-worthy novel!" After reading it, I have some feelings... Published in 2023, Daniel Mason’s North Woods is undeniably a beautifully written novel.
The Battle Never Ends for HEADstrong
Everything happens for a reason. I am a firm believer in both of those statements. Give credit to my faith or blame my naivety. Either way, I know that everything we go through prepares us for something else, and everyone we meet is placed in our lives for a reason. You then choose to follow your intuition or not, but the opportunity is there. There Are No Coincidences Cheryl Collulouri came into my life exactly when I needed her most.
Andie's Book Club: 'The Friday Afternoon Club' by Griffin Dunne
There’s something about Hollywood. It is a town brimming with stories - some sweet, though most salacious - but few of the stories you may have heard are as heartbreakingly honest, terrifyingly twisted, and fanatically funny as the Dunne family. Griffin is the oldest of the Dunne children, and his family memoir will leave you wondering how one family could live a thousand lives. Griffin Dunne is best known as an actor (After Hours, An American Werewolf in London, This Is Us, Billions) and director.
Hardy Brings His Country Heart to Metal Show
Hardy is what we call a crossover artist. We know him for his country music, and amazing collaborations with folks like Morgan Wallen ("Come Back as a Redneck"), Lainey Wilson ("Wait in the Truck"), Nate Smith ("Nobody Likes Your Girlfriend"), and, most recently with Ella Langley ("Never Met Anyone Like You"). Hardy also has a heavy metal side.

Thank You for Listening tells the story of an audiobook narrator, Sewanee Chester. You learn her triumphs as well as her tragedies. You learn what makes her tick. And you trust it because it’s in the book. But if you met Sewanee Chester in person, would you really know her? Good authors will advise: write what you know. The plot of Thank You for Listening is what Julia Whelan knows, but don’t falsely assume it is about her. This book is a story, a work of fiction.
Andie's Book Club: 'The Truth About Melody Browne' by Lisa Jewell
When a little girl grows up experiencing loss after loss - shuffling from place to place, home to home, and person to person - it would be easy for her to feel deprived of what so many of us take for granted: a stable home, loving parents, family, and lasting friendships. But what Melody Browne discovers as an adult is more love than she ever thought possible. The story opens with nine-year-old Melody lying on a sidewalk, staring up at a strange man and woman, completely disoriented.
An Ode to My Co-Workers: My Chosen Family
Have you ever felt like you are exactly where you belong? I am. And it's thanks to my co-workers. My chosen family. I’ve always felt incredibly lucky that this career chose me. Honestly, I never had any interest in radio. In fact, I thought the people who worked in it were a little intimidating. But while I was in college, I took a part-time job as a weekend host at a country station in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and on my very first day, I fell completely in love with it.

Jelly Roll Meets Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson After 10-Years of Friendship
When two of the biggest names in entertainment cross paths, the world pays attention. But when the connection runs deeper than fame, when it’s built on shared struggle and real heart, it becomes something unforgettable. Jelly Roll finally met one of his biggest fans: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Years ago, long before their worlds officially collided, The Rock was going through a tough season. In search of something - anything - to pull him through, a song stopped him cold in the middle of a workout.
