RIF (101.1 FM) — branded 101 WRIF: The RIFF — is a commercial active rock radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate in Detroit, Michigan serving surrounding Metro Detroit.The station is currently owned by Greater Boston Radio, Inc.WRIF is a grandfathered "Superpower" Class B station with a signal equivalent to 92,000 watts at 500 ft; stated another way, under current U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) limits for Class B stations, WRIF would be allowed to broadcast an effective radiated power (ERP) of no more than 16,000 watts using an antenna of height of 268 meters.As such, the signal can be heard as far North as Lexington, MI; Jackson; Chatham-Kent and Lambton County, Ontario; North Baltimore, Ohio; and occasionally as far south as Delaware, Ohio. The station transmitter is located in the Detroit suburb of Southfield near the intersection of 10 Mile Road and Northwestern Highway. WRIF transmits its signal from the same tower as WXYZ-TV. Honestly, I have known about this culture for a while, but always thought that term was accepted over there. Apparently it isn't because one of them just cracked a tourist. Detroit tenants can look up landlords using city databases. These track certificates of compliance, blight tickets, tax delinquency, and eviction records. The city's Open Data Portal now provides information that was difficult to obtain years ago. Just 14% of rental properties had a certificate of compliance as of late August. The certificate means a property can operate as a rental. It passed a city inspection of 15 items affecting health and safety.
Detroit Police Board Delays Vote on Ending Virtual Public Comments After Backlash
The Detroit Board of Police Commissioners postponed a vote on a proposal that would end live virtual public comments at weekly meetings. District 1 Commissioner Henrietta Ivey introduced the measure at the Aug. 27 meeting. It would restrict public comment to in-person attendance starting Sept. 3. The proposal, which was seconded by appointed Commissioner Darryl Woods, would also remove an option to provide comments via phone.
