RIF (101.1 FM) — branded 101 WRIF: The RIFF — is a commercial active rock radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate in Detroit, Michigan serving surrounding Metro Detroit.The station is currently owned by Greater Boston Radio, Inc.WRIF is a grandfathered "Superpower" Class B station with a signal equivalent to 92,000 watts at 500 ft; stated another way, under current U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) limits for Class B stations, WRIF would be allowed to broadcast an effective radiated power (ERP) of no more than 16,000 watts using an antenna of height of 268 meters.As such, the signal can be heard as far North as Lexington, MI; Jackson; Chatham-Kent and Lambton County, Ontario; North Baltimore, Ohio; and occasionally as far south as Delaware, Ohio. The station transmitter is located in the Detroit suburb of Southfield near the intersection of 10 Mile Road and Northwestern Highway. WRIF transmits its signal from the same tower as WXYZ-TV. Music of Universal Studios Hollywood - Halloween Horror Nights Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 pack 21 compositions the rocker wrote and recorded for haunted attractions at this annual event. The first comes on "Swamp Thing" colored vinyl.
KISS Gave Rush First Major U.S. Tour After Other Acts Refused Canadian Trio
KISS bassist Gene Simmons said his band brought Rush on their first major U.S. tour in the mid-1970s after other acts refused to work with the Canadian trio. Promoters resisted booking Rush because the group came from Canada. But Simmons and Paul Stanley decided to give them a chance after hearing "Working Man." "We took them from nowhere. Nobody would give them a tour because they were Canadian, right?" Simmons said to 101 WRIF.
System of a Down Releases 25th Anniversary Edition of ‘Toxicity’ with Rare Track and Tour Dates
System of a Down announced a 25th anniversary edition of their 2001 album Toxicity on Sept. 4. The release features a vinyl reissue with a bonus 7-inch single and corrected track info. Fans get "Johnny," a song that appeared only on international editions and a UK 7-inch paired with "Chop Suey!" This track never received a proper standalone release until now. The reissue corrects a 25-year mistake on the album's tracklist.
Stanley Simmons Releases New Single From Debut Album Rooted in Folk and Americana
Stanley Simmons dropped a music video for "Cold," the newest track from their first album Dancing While The World Is Ending, which hit stores on Aug. 28. The band pairs Evan Stanley with Nick Simmons, sons of KISS legends Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. Jack Hackett directed the video. "Cold" comes from a 12-track collection that leans toward folk rock and Americana instead of the hard rock their fathers made famous. Metallica Foundation Auctions Track Loader for Trade School Programs
Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation is auctioning off a track loader through Dec. 17. Proceeds will fund trade education programs. The first of 25 "Hetskid" machines started bidding over Labor Day weekend on the Purple Wave auction site. CASE built the TV450B compact track loader at their production plant in Wichita. James Hetfield commissioned the build as part of an equipment supply agreement with CASE in 2024.
