An A-Z guide to the best food — of all kinds — at restaurants in Charlotte
Editor’s note: A previous version of this story was published in November 2024, and it has been updated. For a personal, food writer reason: It has just enough African restaurants to bolster my chances (and destiny) of meeting Nigerian songstress and superstar Tems if she’s ever in town and has a hankering for jollof rice or even banga soup.
Big portions, zero pretense: This hidden Charlotte carryout spot is the move
No, Guy Fieri did not eat at this hidden hideout. Yes, he did gobble down the spanakopita from Landmark Diner, Chaobao Taco from The Improper Pig and corndog shrimp from Pinky’s Westside Grill during his numerous trips to Charlotte.
You don’t have to leave Charlotte for a taste of spicy Nigerian street food
What If I told you that my favorite barbecue in all of Charlotte is beef suya? Before all you barbecue elitists began to circle my wagon with vitriol, pitchforks and torches: by definition, “barbecue” means to roast or broil (food such as meat) on a rack or revolving spit on or before a heat source (such as hot coals or gas flame). Don’t blame me. Blame both the Merriam Brothers and Noah Webster. Yes, the Cheshire pork ribs from Noble Smoke are heaven on a bone.
Red-eye gravy fades away in Charlotte. But a nearby diner holds onto tradition
But I can’t think of another entity more proudly and inherently Southern than NASCAR. I’ve also tried to think of another city with stronger, deeper roots to NASCAR than Charlotte (and its suburbs). That being said, you think there’d be at least one restaurant in the city that serves something more traditionally tied to Southern American foodstuff than boiled peanuts or pimento cheese. I’m talking about the one, the only: red-eye gravy.

Tech in Content Production: Will AI Kill the Video Star?
Disruption is coming for content production, but not where you might think. Online buzz and ongoing strikes highlight fears of how artificial intelligence (AI) could replace our writers, actors, and visual artists, but generative AI shouldn’t replace our creatives—not if we want quality content. As companies adopt more digital experience tools, investing in data and consumer analytics capabilities will set them apart.
Why Everyone in Media Needs an Analytics Upgrade
Media companies once had to read the tea leaves in focus groups, TV ratings and chart rankings to help guide their investment decisions, but no longer. They are now awash in data. Across devices and media types, they can track clicks, views and shares—all containing information that, when properly sifted and understood, can improve the odds of their programming bets. Of course, nearly every industry is looking for ways to add value through analytics.
