Craticula vanensis sp. nov., a new species of diatom with a complex mitogenome, inhabiting soda lakes in central Europe and Anatolia
Abstract This article formally describes Craticula vanensis sp. nov., a new species of diatom from Lake Van, the largest soda lake in the world, and the fifth new species identified in the lake following an 81-years gap in investigations. A genomic approach based on short reads allowed the complete cluster of nuclear rRNA genes to be retrieved alongside the complete plastome, both later used in several single or multigene phylogenies, which surprisingly tended to associate C.

Groundwater Quality Assessment in the Area of the Zinc Smelter in Miasteczko Śląskie (Poland) Using Selected Metal Indices
1. Introduction The metallurgical industry, along with the accompanying processes, is one of the essential elements of economic development [1,2]. During the operation of smelters, gas, water, and slag are produced [3,4,5]. The mining and smelting of metal ores is one of the factors of heavy metal accumulation in the environment [6]. Smelting activities can cause soil, water, and air pollution [7,8]. Contamination may include metals such as copper, arsenic, cadmium, lead, or nickel [9].
Prey preference in a kleptoplastic dinoflagellate is linked to photosynthetic performance - The ISME Journal
Abstract Dinoflagellates of the family Kryptoperidiniaceae, known as “dinotoms”, possess diatom-derived endosymbionts and contain individuals at three successive evolutionary stages: a transiently maintained kleptoplastic stage; a stage containing multiple permanently maintained diatom endosymbionts; and a further permanent stage containing a single diatom endosymbiont.
