Letter to the editor: Russell Cleveland is building the coalition Montana needs
I’ve been organizing in Montana and around the country for a long time. I’ve worked on grassroots campaigns as a paid staffer. I’ve volunteered, built coalitions, and seen how hard it is to earn trust in communities across this state. I’ve also seen what happens when campaigns forget who they’re supposed to represent. That’s why I don’t make endorsements lightly. Russell Cleveland is the best candidate for MT-01. At first, I was cautious. He was a new face. I wasn't sure who was backing him.
The multidimensional profiling of youth male rugby union players: a systematic scoping review, nominal group technique and survey
ABSTRACT This three-part study aimed to 1) investigate the most common profiling practices in male rugby union; 2) identify factors profiled within youth players; and 3) assess the importance of these factors for player progression and their measurement feasibility. Part one employed a systematic scoping review. For part two, expert practitioners participated in a Nominal Group Technique session to identify factors to profile within youth male rugby union.
Letter to the editor: Knudsen should worry less about Cromwell, more about own mess
It’s deeply ironic for Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen to accuse Gallatin County Attorney Audrey Cromwell of ignoring the law — when Knudsen himself is under formal scrutiny for repeatedly defying it. Knudsen faces 41 counts of professional misconduct, including defying court orders and undermining judicial independence. A judicial commission recommended suspending his law license for 90 days — an extraordinary rebuke for the state’s top law enforcement officer. This is not law and order.
Letter to the editor: Real patriots don't cheer executive overreach, they defend liberty
If today’s self-proclaimed conservatives had been around in 1773, they wouldn’t have been tossing tea into Boston Harbor — they’d have been guarding the crates for the crown and calling the Sons of Liberty unpatriotic. Modern conservatives rail against “big government,” yet cheer as their leaders impose tariffs that raise consumer prices, disrupt supply chains, and hand more power to Washington bureaucrats.
Letter to the editor: Trump'e rhetoric latest example of American imperialism
Donald Trump's rhetoric about annexing Canada, Mexico, and Greenland isn't just political sideshow. It’s a reflection of imperialist ambitions ingrained into the very foundation of U.S. foreign policy and expansionism. The U.S. has always viewed Mexico and Canada not as sovereign partners but as extensions of its geopolitical sphere. The annexation of northern Mexico in the 19th century under the guise of "Manifest Destiny" was one of the first chapters in this story.

The long COVID evidence gap in England
The term long COVID, also known as post-COVID-19 condition, was coined in spring, 2020, by individuals with ongoing symptoms following COVID-19 in response to unsatisfactory recognition of this emerging syndrome by health-care practitioners.
Assessment of contact involvements and scrums in international rugby union match-play using video analysis and microsensor technology methods
ABSTRACT This study sought to assess the validity of contact involvement (CI) detection using microsensor technology (MST, Catapult Vector) within the context of a Tier One national rugby union (RU) squad, consisting of 44 players. Sensitivity of MST units to detect CI and scrums was assessed in eight test matches, by comparison with match data obtained by video analysis.
Letter to the editor: Sheehy is no different than other politicians
US Senate candidate Tim Sheehy endlessly decries lobbyists and their influence in his TV commercials, while Federal Election Commission records show he works with and takes plenty of money from corporate lobbyists. Tim's most recent October quarterly disclosure to the FEC reveals that he accepted at least $41,660 from registered lobbyists.

Montanans Can't Wait Any Longer
In 2022, Gov. After weeks of public pressure, Gianforte finally submitted an application to the federal government.

Performing the Socialist State
Xiaomei Chen's book Performing the Socialist State: Modern Chinese Theater and Film Culture (Columbia UP, 2023) looks at three "founding fathers" of Chinese spoken drama: Tian Han, Hong Shen, and Ouyang Yuqian. Dr. Chen argues that these three theatre artists laid the groundwork for Mao-era Chinese drama during the earlier Republic period, and that there is more continuity between the two periods than has typically been supposed.
Linking electronic mental healthcare and benefits records in South London: design, procedure and descriptive outcomes
Discussion We have established an unprecedented data linkage between routinely collected mental healthcare and benefits records, spanning 15 years of linked data, among working-age adults. This enables us to look for the first time, in detail, at the complex longitudinal relationships between mental health and benefit receipt. A linkage rate of 92.3% was achieved using an ad hoc deterministic linkage approach and fuzzy matching.

Yussef El Guindi's In a Clear Concise Arabic Tongue (Broadway Play Publishing, 2021) collects short plays and monologues from almost twenty years of this exciting playwright's career. Guindi writes mainly about Arab and Muslim character, but does so within the framework of the American immigrant story. These are stories of characters caught between the reductive ideas wider American society holds about them and the much more complex reality they know is obscured by stereotypes.

Letter to the editor: Tranel gets it, deserves vote in Dem primary
As a progressive, I was a little leery at first about Monica Tranel and her run for U.S. Congress. In fact in 2020, I ran a Democratic Public Service Commission primary campaign against her. Since Monica’s announcement, I have sat down with her several times at length to learn about her background and the issues she thinks are important.
David Hajdu and John Carey, "A Revolution in Three Acts: The Radical…
Too often, vaudeville is seen from the perspective of its decline: it is the corny, messy art form that predated the book musical, or that gave us Chaplin, Keaton, and the Marx Brothers. Rarely is it seen as the populist avant-garde form it was at its height.

In The Girl Singer (Fireside Industries, 2021), her latest collection of poems, Marianne Worthington weaves together nature writing, feminism, and country music to form a powerful strand of interlocking poems. Andrea Warner's Buffy Sainte-Marie: The Authorized Biography (Graystone Books, 2018)tells the story, often in Buffy's own words, of the life of the remarkable artist and activist. Buffy Sainte-Marie's musical career is as varied and fascinating as those of her Canadian contemporaries Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen, but he work has not always achieved the recognition it deserves.

Caseen Gaines' Footnotes: The Black Artists Who Rewrote the Rules of the Great White Way (Sourcebooks, 2021) is a rollicking, entertaining, and fascinating cultural history of the 1921 Broadway musical Shuffle Along. Created by Black writers and composers and performed by an all-Black cast, Shuffle Along was one of the early cultural milestones of the Harlem Renaissance, not least because it launched the career of Josephine Baker.

What always being the Single Friend taught me about Relationships.
What’s the point of friends w/ boyfriends if they won’t do the salt, pepper & cumin couple costume from HIMYM w/ me pic.twitter.com/MxVpPbvLxs — sydknee (@onionboii) October 7, 2015 I was well into my 20s when I had my first “proper” romantic relationship. Plenty of people choose to wait until they are financially and emotionally stable, and have left behind the chaos and confusion of adolescence for good, to begin looking for a long-term partner. However, this was not exactly the case for me.

Wondering How to Get Over a Breakup? Here Are 7 Reasons You Can’t Move On
Can’t quite figure out how to get over a breakup? Having issues letting go and moving on from your last relationship? Breakups are tricky – they’re emotional, they’re hard, and it’s normal to feel conflicted, especially if you were very close with that person. Even if you know that the end of the relationship was for the best, feelings of sadness can linger. However, sometimes these feelings last a lot longer.

Howard Sherman's Another Day's Begun: Thornton Wilder's Our Town in the 21st Century (Bloomsbury, 2021) provides a fascinating tour of contemporary productions of Wilder's great play. Why does this play from 1938 continue to speak to contemporary audiences, and how does it speak differently in different settings? How is it both timeless and continually timely? And how have contemporary stagings dealt with its reputation as a wholesome, dull chestnut?

"The Dead Know What They're Doing When They Leave This World Behind." Did David Berman? · San Antonio Review (Volume IV | Fall 2020)
Image by Milicent Fambrough. Constuction paper turned into a postcard. A while ago I was at a party when I saw a stranger’s lock screen from across the room. It was a picture of a man with a receding hairline wearing aviator glasses and sitting, slouching, in a red chair. I asked, though just to confirm what I already knew, "who's that on your phone?" It was David Berman, mercurial frontman of the Silver Jews and then, for a short time, Purple Mountains.
Close the right candidate to serve the state, HD61
My friend Brian Close recently announced he’s running for House District 61 in Bozeman. I support Brian’s run because he believes that elected government exists for the purpose of improving public safety and people’s lives, not serve financial interests or interests of elected officials.
Support Tom Woods for Public Service Commission
As a state legislator, Tom Woods has a proven track record of putting Montana citizens before powerful narrow special interests. I am supporting Tom for Public Service Commission (PSC) District 3 because he understands the balance between a fair rate of return for Northwest Energy (NWE) shareholders and affordable rates for ratepayers. The PSC only works for ratepayers when it conducts oversight, and if there’s one thing NWE really hates (but needs), it’s someone asking how they formulate rates.

On PSC, Woods will stand up for Montana citizens
During four terms in the Montana House of Representatives Tom Woods has demonstrated that he has the backs of the citizens of our great state in mind. While serving in the House, he brought legislation to make Northwestern Energy and other powerful monopolies treat us more fairly. We need someone on the Public Service Commission (PSC) that will put consumer interests first.

A metabolic profile of all-cause mortality risk identified in an observational study of 44,168 individuals
Abstract Predicting longer-term mortality risk requires collection of clinical data, which is often cumbersome. Therefore, we use a well-standardized metabolomics platform to identify metabolic predictors of long-term mortality in the circulation of 44,168 individuals (age at baseline 18–109), of whom 5512 died during follow-up. We apply a stepwise (forward-backward) procedure based on meta-analysis results and identify 14 circulating biomarkers independently associating with all-cause mortality.
Understanding and compassion key to make America great again
The absence of civility in American politics is nothing new. By the time of Abraham Lincoln’s election in 1860, the American party system had broken down over the issue of slavery. Our politics throughout the 1850s and 60’s was rife; but the root cause of the Civil War was slavery, not incivility. Americans’ hostility toward each other is not exclusive to the 19th century.

Dorian Hargrove and the Reader
How Hargrove came to write for the Reader: My first published article in the Reader was for a writing contest I entered in 2007. The contest: Write a story that best describes your neighborhood. I wrote about the bodybuilding couple that lived across the courtyard from us on 6th Avenue in Hillcrest. What seemed like every third or fourth night, the men would erupt in some of the loudest and angriest fights. They would yell. They threw cell phones from the second story balcony.
Sen. Daines should support right to repair laws
What is right to repair? Right to repair laws ensure consumers have access to the parts, schematics, repair information, and any other necessary tools needed to repair the equipment that they rightfully own. Farmers used to repair their farm equipment themselves. But as this equipment becomes increasingly advanced and software-reliant, the tools necessary to perform those repairs become harder to get ahold of.
Old Town’s cemetery not San Diego’s oldest
Oldest in Seaport I often point out to tourists the grave marker at the old jail. It was a yard where...merchant marines and whalers and Americans and Europeans who died here [were] buried. I noticed your article on early cemeteries in San Diego (“Browsing San Diego pioneer graves at Old Town’s Campo Santo cemetery,” Golden Dreams, March 6). I believe this one this is probably the oldest one.
