The architect of Qatar’s rise to global energy superpower and a former president of OPEC during some of the group’s most fractious years, was ahead of his time. But Attiyah would say his reputation as the architect of Qatar’s LNG industry came partly by accident. In the early 1990s, LNG was a tough sell with international investors.
