(WBRE/WYOU) — All this week we have been looking back at the career of our colleague and friend Andy Mehalshick. Andy of course covered many high-profile cases over the years and won many awards for his work. But many will remember him for one of his favorite projects: keeping children safe in his popular “Stranger danger” series. The Stranger Danger Program was launched in 1994. The mission was simple, to keep kids safe and teach them what to do if they were approached by a stranger.

During his career, Andy has covered many high-profile stories. One of those stories is “Kids for Cash,” and Andy has a look back at that story. It was a case that rocked this area: two judges sending kids to a detention center in a pay-to-play scheme. It involved a number of people in our region, and caught in the middle: the kids.
