OPINION: Defending California against Trump and Palantir
Ahead of Election Day, the Trump Administration has stooped to a new low with highly publicized federal arrests of 28 California residents and reports of the Department of Homeland Security going door-to-door questioning voters, in what can only be described as blatant voter intimidation. This is the latest escalation in a coordinated campaign by the Trump administration to sow fear and confusion among California voters to shape the outcome of federal elections.

Guest Commentary: A New and Compelling Vision is Needed for the United States of America
PC: Gabriel F Via Flickr Tuesday night’s election results reiterate our need to offer a compelling vision for the future. A vision that is bold, progressive, and centers humanity. The results from last night offer insight into what is important to voters and what changes need to be made across party lines. Mr. Trump’s win should not be interpreted as a mandate to mass deport or separate families.
Opinion: How anti-immigrant bigotry hugely misunderstands our economy
Over recent months, conservative leaders including Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Texas governor Greg Abbott have cynically used pressures at the U.S.-Mexico border to vilify immigrants and refugees fleeing harsh conditions across Latin America and other parts of the world. They’ve pushed fearmongering about immigrants as a threat to skew U.S. policy related to the war in Ukraine and the federal budget. Some of that anti-immigrant sentiment has spread among voters.
San Antonio Tractor-Trailer Deaths are a Horrific Reminder the USA has Failed to Fix Immigration Laws
By Angelica Salas The sweltering summer heat and human trafficking are directly responsible for the deaths of 50 people seeking a better life in the U.S. But Congress and the White House must do more than just send prayers to the victims. No mincing of words is necessary when the horror is so visible, palpable, and above all, preventable.

On a Tuesday morning, the winner of the 2020 presidential election was projected, which made the whole world stare at their TV and cell phone screens in shock and in the mood to celebrate the loss President Donald Trump took. However, some of the citizens of the United States completely forgot about the pandemic for a bit. Major cities like Los Angeles, New York and Chicago were celebrating. Alternatives for a safe and clean Halloween
Halloween in Orange County is not canceled this year, but COVID-19 has made way for some drastic changes. The California Department of Public Health recommends exercising alternatives for celebrating Halloween this Saturday, as it strongly believes that trick-or-treating shouldn’t be optional this year. Trick-or-treating can cause a very high risk of spreading coronavirus. It’s very high risk because you face and brush hands with multiple strangers in one night.
Tuesdays To Go Review: Huntington Ramen and Sushi is a hit or miss for Asian cuisine
Huntington Ramen and Sushi offers plenty of vegan choices, which makes them stand out as a restaurant. They offer many different options for everyone with different taste buds. The Shrimp Revival (non-vegan) was not warm enough. The noodles were separated from the soup, and they were also very cold and stiff as if they were from an instant noodle package. It had a very strange and dry texture, and the taste was quite odd. The shrimp provided in the ramen soup was also very cold.
Commentary: You might not think voter suppression can happen in California. It can.
California is a progressive state compared to the rest of the nation, so you wouldn’t think voter suppression can happen here. When it does, it’s a warning that voters across the nation should act to protect the results of this election. Recently we saw this suppression at work in Baldwin Park, a mixed Los Angeles County neighborhood. Someone set a ballot drop box on fire, a suspected arson that officials say was meant to suppress votes. The fire destroyed at least 100 ballots.

No Place in our Democracy for a Federal Police Force - in Portland or Anywhere
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the largest immigrant rights organization in California, summarily rejects the Trump administration’s activation of federal agents to police US cities. True democracies do not need a federal police force that answers only to a president in an authoritarian death spiral.
The Inland Empire needs to invest in upgrading its democracy
The COVID crisis is wreaking havoc on our region in multiple ways, from the safety and operations of health officials, to the work and livelihoods of millions of residents. It also presents grave challenges to robust participation in a healthy democracy, as jurisdictions struggle to get prepared for making polling locations and voting as convenient, expansive, and safe as possible.

New Stimulus Must Include Benefits for Immigrant Essential Workers
As soon as it passed, Congressional lawmakers realized the $2.2 trillion CARES stimulus package to help the country through the COVID-19 pandemic would not suffice. Yes, U.S.-born workers would eventually get $1,200 checks and significantly expanded unemployment insurance. But some essential workers have been left out in the cold. The Trump administration’s refusal to put systems in place to distribute the aid has also bred confusion and wasted CARES Act resources.

‘New Deal for New Americans’ will reform immigration policy and strengthen our nation
We have, sadly, gotten used to constant bad news about immigration policy. There’s the public charge rule aimed at denying benefits, to eligible immigrants to the Trump administration’s attack on DACA and the “Dreamers.” There’s the proposal to increase naturalization fees, which is clearly aimed at limiting the immigrant vote. Add the recent announcement on potential travel restrictions on seven more countries, and you have to wonder whether anything good can ever come out of Washington.

Traveling-While-Pregnant Policy Is Just Government-Sanctioned Discrimination
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), the largest immigrant rights organization in California strongly opposes the Trump administration’s announced policy that threatens to violate the rights of women throughout the world seeking visas to travel to this country. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims everyone’s freedom of movement, stating in Article 13 that people have the right to leave or return to any country, including their own.
Viajar Mientras la Política de Embarazo es Solo Discriminación Sancionada por el Gobierno

Trump Shreds Flores Rules in Implacable Quest for Cruelty
With these new rules, the Trump administration shows it will stop at nothing to ratchet its abuse of the weakest and most exposed immigrants. The president has decided torture works and he's inflicting it on brown children. Thirty-five years ago, when attorneys first filed the lawsuit that resulted in the Flores Settlement Agreement, children languished for weeks in filthy, makeshift immigration jails ringed by razor wire. The consent decree meant to end all that.
Cuccinelli mocks lady liberty and attacks our nation's values
When the Trump administration trots out one of its most ardent, anti-immigrant cabinet members to announce a new policy that will deny people who have sought assistance a chance at the American dream, we know we are no longer talking about immigration policy. We are now in the full and unapologetic territory of the Trump administration — slowly chipping away at the foundation of our great nation as a place of diversity, hope and tolerance.
Would Americans Allow Their Own Children to Live in Squalid Conditions?
Newly-revealed details on the squalid and repulsive conditions at immigration detention centers housing hundreds of children and youth should move all Americans to demand an immediate halt to the practice of incarcerating these young souls instead of placing them with their loved ones right away. The Trump Administration continues to demonstrate it is not bound by any moral value as it continues to pile children over children at these overcrowded facilities.
One More Child Is Dead While In U.S. Custody
It's Christmas Day and the parents of this 8-year old child will receive the most gruesome news about their lovely son courtesy of the U.S. government. CBP is by far the worst serial offender DHS agency and does not even pretend to care for the well-being and lives of migrants under its care.
Constitution Is Stronger Than Trump's Dog-Whistle Politics
Los Angeles -- The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), rejected President Trump's latest proposal to take away birthright citizenship to children born of certain immigrants.President Trump's announcement that he is thinking of taking away birthright citizenship is a serious blow to our system of checks and balances, and to the Constitution itself.
Don’t forsake the Golden Rule in immigration policy
What would drive you to leave your home with little more than the clothes on your back? If you live in a country riddled with violence and virtually no opportunity, leaving your homeland and your family may be the best option. Stay, and you have a bleak future, rife with unrelenting violence, organized crime and street gangs. You'll live under a corrupt and unstable government, facing raging unemployment and staggering poverty. Leave, and you have at least a glimmer of a better life.
Benefits Rule is a ‘Sophie’s Choice’ for Immigrants Courtesy of Trump
The largest immigrant rights organization in California, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), denounces a proposed rule change by the Trump administration that imposes extra conditions to those who want to adjust their immigration status, ruling them out of the process if they have ever used any publicly-funded benefits such as food stamps. The Trump administration wants to block one of the few legal avenues people still have to immigrate to the United States.
463 Cruel and Unusual Ways to Punish a Child
The human crisis at the border the Trump Administration created gets worse and worse by the day. DOJ’s admission that at least 463 parents have already been deported without reunifying with their children is ruthless and vengeful. This is not the American way and we reject our government’s handling of this situation.
Congress must set aside political games, and pass a "clean" DREAM Act

Cruel And Unusual Punishment For A Generation Of American DREAMers - The San Fernando Valley Sun: News
For nearly 900,000 young immigrants, DACA signifies a lifeline, a shining beacon of hope in the midst of a shadowy immigration limbo perpetuated by politics, xenophobia, and a cruel anti-immigrant stance by Republicans in Congress. For decades, we have guided all these young people in the path of rightfulness, taught them to be responsible, and to believe in their government.
Deferred action programs can mean end to lives of fear: Guest commentary
Millions of families across America are living in a gut-wrenching legal limbo. For over a year, the federal government’s emergency request to lift a ban on the implementation of the expanded Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) initiatives has been dragged through the federal courts. This April, the Supreme Court will hear United States v.
