The BritBox ‘Blue Lights’ Trailer Promises an Explosive Season 4
BritBox is in the middle of a banner year, bookended by two massive BBC hits that brought in more subscribers in 2026 than any previous year: mystery-comedy Ludwig and period drama The Other Bennet Sister. But the service didn’t get there overnight.
Everything British Streaming on PBS for November 2026
November is here, and with it the holiday season. After two months of wall-to-wall debuts, this was once the point in the calendar when things slowed down, as shows went on winter break to make room for holiday specials. That’s no longer the case, as the holidays are now one of the last bastions of live viewing, both because of the season’s immediacy and because families increasingly need something everyone can agree on, so politics doesn’t spark mini-civil wars around the Thanksgiving table.
‘The Assassin’ Returns to AMC+ for Season 2
Since January 2026, AMC Global has worked overtime to steady its little federation of niche streaming services. Some of the changes made have been long overdue. The biggest thus far has been the decision to stop trying to make Sundance Now into a pale imitation of sister streaming service Acorn TV; instead, the service returned to its roots as the place to watch movies that debut at the Sundance Film Festival and other Oscar-bait events.
‘A Remarkable Place to Die’ Places Another Tombstone for Season 2
Acorn TV has announced the return of A Remarkable Place to Die, the New Zealand-set mystery whose title plays on the Kiwi mountain range known as “The Remarkables.” Screentime New Zealand originally produced the series, which premiered at the 2024 London Screenings and was later picked up by Acorn TV in early 2025.
The ‘Return to Paradise’ Season 3 Images Introduce Mack’s Mother
Return to Paradise Season 3 is still a ways off from debuting in the U.S.; BritBox aired Season 1 in September 2025 and Season 2 in July 2026, so we don’t expect to see a Season 3 premiere until mid-2027 at the earliest. However, Season 3 already has return dates set both across the pond and ’round down under, so the BBC and Australia’s ABC are releasing first images and trailers for the new season, though not necessarily in that order.
‘The Gold’ Season 2 Goes Island Hopping
Episode 2 of The Gold’s second season opens in a new location: the British Virgin Islands, on Tortola. Like Palmer’s place in Tenerife, Spain last week, we’re at an event at a high-class resort that is almost certainly some kind of money-laundering business.
‘Maigret’ Makes a Choice in Solving “The Hanged Man”
PBS — 6 min read Benjamin Wainwright, Kerrie Hayes, Shaniqua Okwok, and Reda Elazouar in 'Maigret' Season 2 (Masterpiece/Playground) Part 2 of Maigret’s first case for Season 2, “The Hanged Man,” opens with a nice, if slightly gratuitous shot of star Ben Wainwright’s chest hair, just in case the slow people in the back needed a reminder this ain’t your mama’s Maigret.
‘The Great British Baking Show’ Pulls Its Pud for “Dessert Week”
The Great British Baking Show opens Dessert Week with the age-old Great British Debate the tent has somehow avoided until now: Dessert or Pudding? Americans may find this argument odd, as “pudding” in our version of English refers specifically to the sweet, milk-based custard most households buy in boxes labeled Jell-O. However, in the U.K., “pudding” is a catch-all for any kind of dessert, sweet or savory, creamy or firm.
Lucy Worsley Returns to PBS with ‘Keys to the Castle’
PBS is bringing Lucy Worsley back for the holidays, but this time she’s not deep-diving into fictional detectives, but buildings. Her newest series, commissioned for BBC Two and now crossing the pond to the U.S., is Lucy Worsley’s Keys to the Castle, and sees her poking around four of Europe’s most famous oversized living spaces, and hopefully wearing a few appropriate outfits along the way.
‘The Gentlemen’ Season 3 Adds Both Hobbit & Elf to Cast
Apparently, a hobbit’s pipe has more than tobacco in it. Or at least, that’s what Guy Ritchie seems to think. The man behind multiple hit series, including Young Sherlock and MobLand, has started production on Season 3 of his Netflix series The Gentlemen, and he’s bringing aboard multiple Middle-earth alumni for the series’ Middle East-set season.
The ‘Honey’ Trailer Hopes You Don’t Remember ‘Killing Eve’
The invention of “Prestige TV” challenged many of the medium’s conventions; one of the biggest has been the need for a show to “stick the landing” in its series finale.
‘The Madame Blanc Mysteries’ Trailer Faces Marriage & Murder
Acorn TV has officially premiered The Madame Blanc Mysteries Season 5 trailer and confirmed that, for the first time in the series’ history, the annual Christmas special will air as the season finale instead of the premiere. We suspected this would happen when Acorn TV announced Madame Blanc’s early November premiere date a few weeks ago.
‘Secret Service’ Sets November Start Date on MGM+
MGM+ — 2 min read Gemma Arteton in 'Secret Service' (MGM+) Poor ITV series Secret Service, which would have been a major hit in a different decade, has finally landed a premiere date here in the States. However, the series is heading to MGM+, so its arrival before the end of 2026 is mitigated by the fact that it will stream on a service no one subscribes to.
‘Blue Lights’ & ‘Death Valley’ Set Early Releases on BritBox Premier
BritBox has officially confirmed that two of its November 2026 series will receive early-access, full-season binge premieres next month. This is a banner headline: since BritBox Premier rolled out in October 2025, it hasn’t been big on promoting early-access dates, preferring to let regular subscribers happen upon them through serendipity.
‘Blue Planet III’ Sets a Mid-Winter Debut for 2027
At this point, we’re on borrowed time with Sir David Attenborough. The man who spent his entire career inventing nature programming as we know it today is somehow still going, six months after turning 100, with brand-new TV series lined up to debut in 2027 and 2028. The latest, Blue Planet III, is the third and final installment in the original trilogy that kicked off his Planet Earth franchise.
MHz Choice Nabs Newest ‘Wallander’ Revival
Another sign the streaming wars are calming down, and the television landscape is returning to the status quo: the newest version of Wallander has found an American streaming home on MHz Choice, the service best suited for it. Announced in April 2025, the new series is the fifth Wallander adaptation based on bestselling author Henning Mankell’s novels since 1994, and the third to be filmed in Swedish.
Roku Picks Up ‘The Walsh Sisters’
Author Marian Keyes has been having a moment in the U.K. The best-selling author had two of her works picked up for adaptation within a year. In early 2024, Netflix commissioned Keyes’ 2020 novel, Grown Ups, which features the Casey and Kinsella families; then, in early 2025, the BBC commissioned an adaptation of Rachel’s Holiday, the best-known novel of her other series, which follows the Walsh family. Filming for the Netflix series has wrapped, and it is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.
‘This City Is Ours’ Continues the Fight for Possession in Season 3
Home About Archives AMC/AMC+ — 3 min read Hannah Onslow and James Nelson-Joyce in 'This City Is Ours' Season 2 (Left Bank Pictures/James Stack) Ahead of This City Is Ours Season 2’s BBC debut, the British broadcaster has confirmed Season 3 is a go. While Season 2 still doesn’t have a confirmed U.S. release date, the renewal will likely cement AMC Global’s commitment to keeping it on its flagship streaming service, AMC+.
‘Black Ops’ Season 3 Adds Alex Jennings to Roster
It’s not an easy day at the BBC, with the announcement of over 100 layoffs and the (re)shuttering of BBC Three as a linear network. Thankfully, just like last time, BBC Three isn’t actually canceled or planning to disappear. It’ll become a major hub on iPlayer (again, just like last time) and the BBC’s main flagship streaming destination. As we’ve noted previously, BBC Three is also one of the main feeders of British shows to Hulu in the States.
The Definitive Jane Austen Streaming Guide
It is a truth universally acknowledged that when a new Jane Austen adaptation arrives, everyone has to pull out all the previous ones and compare. Part of this stems from the fact that there are only six books to begin with. With a limited catalog that gets new versions once a generation or so, it’s easier to compare and contrast how our society is growing and changing in how we present these classic comedy-of-manners romances.
Varada Sethu Joins ‘Slow Horses’ Season 7
The Slow Horses Season 6 finale is still a couple of days away, but Apple TV won’t let that stop it from rolling out the Season 7 cast. Given how far ahead the studio is working to ensure new seasons arrive like clockwork, the production has shown restraint by not revealing the new cast members until now. That’s especially true now that the main guest stars for next season have been revealed, and the most high-profile names are women.
‘The Gold’ Season 2 Introduces a Second King
PBS — 6 min read Amanda Drew and Hugh Bonneville in 'The Gold' Season 2 (Masterpiece) Neil Forsyth’s The Gold was the first in what could become a running series of two-part dramatizations of ripped-from-the-headlines “so crazy it has to be true” events. (His follow-up, the 1990s-set Legends, is over on Netflix; Season 2 is currently in production.) But Legends wouldn’t exist without The Gold Season 2, and The Gold Season 2 wouldn’t have happened without The Gold being a hit in the first place.
‘Maigret’ Season 2 Tries to Find “The Hanged Man”
After regrettably missing the first season of the new Masterpiece remake of Maigret, we dove into this season a little concerned about starting with Season 2. This new version of Georges Simenon’s famous French detective changes a lot about the original series, namely Detective Jules Maigret himself, who in the books (and every adaptation up until now) has been a balding, portly, older, bowler-hat-wearing, pipe-smoking fixture of the Paris Police Judiciaire.
It’s Paul Hollywood’s No Good, Very Bad “Bread Week”
After a detour through the creative minds of Viewers Like You, The Great British Baking Show is back in the bread business. After nearly two decades on the air, and many seasons of Paul Hollywood running rampant like the proverbial 600-pound gorilla who sits wherever he damn well wants, the contestants know what this means: it’s the season’s most terrifying set of challenges: Dread Week with The Breadfather.
‘The Galway Bay Murders’ Trailer Puts Kate Mulgrew in Charge
Move over, Alicia Silverstone; another major American TV figure from the mid-1990s is going to Ireland to solve crimes. Kate Mulgrew, best known as the first woman to ever captain a starship in a Star Trek series, is jumping on the cozy crime bandwagon and popping across the pond to solve a few murders in The Galway Bay Murders. Unlike Silverstone, for whom Irish Blood was her first comeback vehicle, Mulgrew has already had multiple career revivals since her Star Trek days.
Martin Clunes Joins ‘Down Cemetery Road’ Season 2
Of all the shows we missed out on covering during our 2025 hiatus, none was more irritating than Down Cemetery Road. After season after season of Gary Oldman and his farts in Slow Horses, Apple was finally adapting the Mick Herron series we could get into, starring two of the greatest actors of our generation: Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. Thankfully, Season 1 was a hit despite our not covering it, and Season 2 was announced shortly before we relaunched.
‘The Madame Blanc Mysteries’ Sets Season 5 Return Date
Acorn TV — 4 min read 'The Madame Blanc Mysteries' Season 5 Key Art (Acorn TV) Acorn TV has announced the official return of The Madame Blanc Mysteries for Season 5, and as promised, the series will return before the end of 2026. However, the delay in greenlighting the forthcoming season has caused a format switch-up, and if it works, I foresee the series becoming a late-fall staple.
Everything to Remember Ahead of ‘Professor T’ Season 5
The original Flemish-language Professor T was a smash hit when it debuted on VRT 1 in 2015. A Sherlock Holmes-type figure who works as a criminology lecturer, Professor T suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and is neuro-atypical. However, when a former student, recently promoted to Inspector, comes to see him after hitting a wall in solving a rape case, he’s unable to refuse her and soon becomes a regular consultant to her detective team.
’Being Heumann’ Is a Timely Reminder of Others’ Humanity
Not enough people have heard of Judith Heumann, but if Apple Studios can land its latest film in the awards-season conversation, that will finally change. Known as the “Mother of the Disability Rights Movement,” Heumann, who passed in 2022, played a pivotal role in shaping legislation that led to the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
‘Rewarding’ Is a Series That Shouldn’t Be Trapped on Wonder
Amazon’s latest gimmick, creating faux add-on services from programming that would have been part of the basic Prime package to charge subscribers more, would be bad enough even if prices weren’t already shooting up everywhere. However, of these unnecessary paywalls, the most irritating has to be the Wonder Project.
‘Smilla’s Sense of Snow’ Series Scooped by AMC+
When we first saw Viaplay and Germany’s ARD Degeto teaming up in 2020 to make the first TV series adaptation of Smilla’s Sense of Snow, I’m afraid we rather wrote it off. Based on Peter Høeg’s worldwide bestseller, Miss Smilla’s Feeling for Snow (published as Smilla’s Sense of Snow in the U.S.), the novel was first adapted as a feature film in the mid-1990s, and the mid-2025 series debut is only the second adaptation in three decades.
‘Return to Paradise’ Season 3 Introduces the New Hotness
Those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in the part of the globe known as “the West,” tend to treat the poor Oceania dwellers down under as if they are somehow backward and upside down. It doesn’t help that the seasons are offset by six months, so summer peaks just after the Christmas holidays, and everyone wanders around in heavy coats in mid-July.
‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Trailer Takes Leave of Its Manners
The drama ofThe Gilded Age is heading right for us as HBO gears up for the debut of Season 4. The series originally debuted on HBO in January 2022, four months before Warner Bros. Discovery was formed when AT&T divested itself of the network’s parent company, Warner Media. Season 4 will now be one of the first HBO series to premiere after the Skydance merger closed.
The ‘Professor T’ Season 5 Trailer Will Brighten Your Day
Despite launching as an early release for PBS Passport members in August 2026, PBS has only just dropped a trailer and first images for Professor T Season 5, less than a week before the series begins its linear broadcast run on Sunday nights. To be fair, it’s not really PBS’s fault there hasn’t been a trailer or a batch of first images from the new season. The show’s U.K. distributor, ITV, provides trailers and images and establishes the rules around when and how they can be released.
‘Karen Pirie’ Season 3 Will Take ‘The Skeleton Road’
It’s been just over a year since Karen Pirie Season 2 premiered simultaneously on ITV and BritBox in October 2025. While the long silence on a renewal had us worried, it turns out we needn’t have been, as production studio World Productions and ITV have officially confirmed the series will return for a third season. However, the series will undergo a major format shift.
Lionsgate+ Is the Latest Service We Don’t Need From Amazon
It feels like we’ve reached a turning point in TV history.
‘The Marlow Murder Club’ Eats Well in “An Appetite for Murder”
The final episode of The Marlow Murder Club’s third season starts with a cold open at the walk-in freezer where Cal’s body was found at the end of Part 1. Our trio of investigators meet up with DC Tanika and DS Brendan and agree that there may be a universe where Cal walked into the freezer, the door dropped closed, and he slowly died of hypothermia overnight; none of them believe that’s the case in this one.
Audience Choices Are Made in ‘The Great British Baking Show’

‘The Assassin’ Season 2 Will Ruin Everyone’s Honeymoon
Season 1 of The Assassin just finished streaming on Acorn TV, and Season 2 is ready to follow in its wake. The series originally premiered on Sundance Now and AMC+ in mid-2025, and was renewed for a second season before 2026 rolled in; now Season 2 has officially landed a U.K. premiere for November. The series’ recent move, bag and baggage, to Acorn TV wasn’t much of a surprise; Sundance Now rebranded back to its indie-movie roots at the start of the year, so the series no longer fit.
Apple TV Sweeps Up ‘Dustfall’ for 2027
Apple TV — 3 min read Anna Torv in 'Dustfall' (ABC/Apple TV) Apple TV seems to be going on a buying spree, picking up several British and Australian series to debut in the States in the last few months. First, it scooped up Last Seen for September 2026; the series finale just streamed on Apple in early October. Then it nabbed Small Prophets, the oddball, partly-animated British series that’s been one of the BBC’s big hits of 2026.
‘This City Is Ours’ Plots Vengeance for Season 2
AMC/AMC+ — 3 min read 'This City Is Our' Season 2 Key Art (BBC) The Liverpool-set hit This City Is Ours has officially confirmed a U.K. release date for Season 2 before the end of October 2026 and debuted a full-length trailer to mark the occasion, set to the series’ trademark old-school big band/swing soundtrack. Season 1 was a massive hit for the BBC when it debuted in early 2025.
Netflix Greenlights Untitled Lady Violet ‘Bridgerton’ Story
Netflix — 3 min read Adjoa Andoh and Ruth Gemmell in 'Bridgerton' Season 4 (Netflix) Even though it’s been over three years since Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story debuted with no follow-up, fans have long believed the series creator, Shonda Rhimes, would eventually create more spinoff limited series from her Bridgerton global smash hit. The main series may not be as culturally dominant as it was in its earliest years, but it’s still a major subscription driver every time a new season drops.
James Nesbitt Moves Into the BBC’s ‘Hopley Hall’
Production is finally getting underway for Hopley Hall, the latest Northern Ireland-set sitcom from the BBC and BBC Northern Ireland. The two networks co-commissioned the series and included it in the commissions announced at the 2026 Liverpool Comedy Festival.
‘The Cadburys’ First Look Is Sweet as Chocolate
Filming has officially wrapped on the UKTV/BritBox co-production The Cadburys, a dramatic retelling of how the British chocolatier invented the candy bar as we know it today during the Victorian era and became a dominant force in the cocoa industry. The new series is based on author (and distant family relative) Deborah Cadbury’s non-fictionbook, Chocolate Wars: The 150-Year Rivalry Between the World’s Greatest Chocolate Makers.
Hannah Waddingham Will Sing in Apple TV’s ‘The Choir’
Apple TV — 2 min read Hannah Waddingham will show off her singing chops on Apple TV's 'The Choir' Ted Lasso Season 4 has concluded, but Apple TV isn’t letting star Hannah Waddingham rest just yet. As one of the series secret weapons across all four seasons, Waddingham’s talents include being an amazing singer, something the comedy series has historically loved to find excuses to show off – as has Apple.
‘Blue Planet III’ Brings the Pitiless Sea Back to Our Shores
AMC/AMC+ — 3 min read 'Blue Planet III' Still (BBC/AMC+) There’s an old hymn that goes, “I was drifting away on life’s pitiless sea/And the angry waves threatened my ruin to be;” and it runs through my head every time we get a new installment of Blue Planet.
Michelle Dockery Will Go ‘Feral’ on Netflix
Netflix has finally hit the green light on Feral. The forthcoming series is based on the late British novelist Dame Shirley Conran’s best-selling novel Savages, and was first reported to be heading into production in September 2026. At the time, Netflix would not confirm or deny whether the series was moving forward, or the rumored casting of recent Baby Reindeer breakout star Jessica Gunning in one of the five lead roles.
‘The Bride’s Chamber’ Will Open in ‘A Ghost Story for Christmas’
The BBC has confirmed it will continue one of its most delightful holiday traditions with the debut of a brand new A Ghost Story for Christmas on BBC Two on Christmas Eve. This year’s adaptation is one of Charles Dickens’ darkest tales, The Bride’s Chamber (originally published in 1858 as The Ghost in the Bride’s Chamber), once again brought to life by Bookish creator Mark Gatiss.
‘Crá’ Season 2’s First Look Takes Us to Letterkenny
It’s been more than a century since the 1916 Easter Uprising first kicked off what the U.K. called “The Irish Troubles,” and close to 30 years since the historic 1997 Good Friday Agreement, when the Irish people democratically voted to end it. But the long-term effects still linger, cropping up in places people don’t usually consider.
‘Hercule’ Adds ‘Rivals’ & ‘Call the Midwife’ Stars to Guest List
BritBox and the BBC have revealed further casting today for the forthcoming hot Hercule reboot of Agatha Christie’s Poirot, giving us a clearer sense of what the new series will be like. The series already announced a round of high-profile castings back in early August 2026, when filming first kicked off in the U.K. At the time, we were under the impression the nearly all-A-list group would be spread across the series’ six episodes, covering three of Christie’s novels.
