Why do First Nations people continue to be history's outsiders?
For as long as “History” with a capital ‘H’ has been written, Indigenous peoples have been placed outside its circle. Consequently, whole groups of peoples, whole continents like Australia, and whole spans of human time, are missing from history’s scope. Why have Indigenous peoples become History’s outsiders? One reason is the formal discipline of history originated in Europe and was based on analysing written texts. Traditionally History has used books and articles to share its findings.

'All things will outlast us': How the Indigenous concept of deep time helps us understand environmental destruction
The Indigenous Australian sense of history spans the 65,000 or more years they’ve lived on this continent. On the face of it, this offers an opportunity to embrace Indigenous ways of knowing.
how the Indigenous concept of deep time helps us understand environmental destruction
The bushfire royal commission is examining ways Indigenous land and fire management could improve Australia’s resilience to national disasters. On the face of it, this offers an opportunity to embrace Indigenous ways of knowing. But one traditional practice unlikely to be examined is the Indigenous concept of “deep time”. This concept offers all Australians a blueprint for understanding the land we live on.

First contact between Aboriginal people and the British of the First Fleet.
Keri Phillips: Hello, welcome to Rear Vision. I'm Keri Phillips. On 26th January 1788, the ships of the First Fleet started unloading the first of more than a thousand people—convicted criminals, officers, marines, women and children—who would set up camp in what became the city of Sydney. How we remember this date has become the subject of debate but it's not the subject of this program.
MicGuy Unleashes the Diva in Your Child
What kid doesn’t like hearing their voice amplified? My little divas certainly do (though they rarely need it)! Somehow my husband and I created two tiny little Broadway stars hiding out as middle class children in suburban Wisconsin. MicGuy arrived at our house and gave them the outlet they have been searching for! MicGuy is the perfect microphone for kids. It is sized and shaped perfectly to fit little hands and the wide base stands up easily when placed on a table.
Phillips Pro-Mix Hand Blender - Professional Power for the Home Cook
I have had the same hand blender for the past decade. I use it often and it’s one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. It has some problems – it’s difficult to clean, the speed choices aren’t always what I need, and occasionally it over-heats. I had no idea how far this appliance had or could advance until I tried out the Phillips Pro-Mix Hand Blender. Wow! At first sight, I love the look of the Phillips Pro-Mix.
Etch-a -Sketch: New Life in a Classic Toy
I had an etch-a-sketch when I was a girl, didn’t we all? I mastered a rather squared off looking cursive version of my name and thought I was pretty swell (nevermind that my name is only three letters)! I was eager to review the new line of Etch-a-Sketch and see my daughters enjoy a new version of a long-loved toy. Etch-a-Sketch Junior was perfect for my four-year-old. Instead of the classic dual knob controls, the Junior model is controlled by a joystick.
Beat Bugs - Bringing The Beatles to a New Generation
I grew up the child of hippies and The Beatles were the music of my childhood. My father played their albums so often I don’t remember when I first heard the songs, it just seems that I always knew them. I was delighted to discover Beat Bugs and share this with my children too. Beat Bugs is a children’s program that is available for viewing on Netflix and we are hooked! The show centers around a group of bugs living in a backyard and each episode features a different song by The Beatles.
Bialetti Mineral DS Cookware - The Perfect Blend of Form and Function
I’ve had a lot of non-stick cookware over the years and not all of it is created equal. I’ve had pans with the non-stick surface flaking off, pans that flat out lied when they claimed to be non-stick and pans that were functional but unattractive. The Mineral DS line by Bialetti addresses all of these issues and more. Let’s start with how the pan looks. Most non-stick surfaces are a flat black – not Mineral DS.
Eat Well and Live Vibrantly with Livliga!
Whether you are doing it for health and fitness or just to feel good about how you look, there’s no doubt about it – dieting is hard. While it’s difficult enough to make lifestyle changes, one of the hardest parts, for me anyway, is to get past the idea that I am denying myself. I look at the food on my plate, knowing that it’s enough but seeing expanses of white plate and feel like it’s not enough and that makes it harder to stick with a plan.
Stay In and Take Yourself Out to Lunch at the Same Time with French Bull
I’m a mom with a full time job outside of the home. I’m busy! You know the feeling. As the breadwinner of my household, I am also thrifty and I “brown bag” my lunch most days of the week. If you’re like me then you know the feeling you get sometimes when you pull out your packed lunch of leftovers or a sandwich and it just sort of depresses you. Well, all of that changed for me when the Ziggy Lunch Set by French Bull came into my life. To start with, the Ziggy Lunch Set is gorgeous.
Good Cooking Collapsible Kitchenware - Thin Is In!!
I confess – the cupboards and drawers in my kitchen are a mess. Don’t judge! I’ve been accumulating kitchenware since college and what my cupboards and drawers hide now is a hodgepodge of mismatched, worn out and just plain inconvenient kitchenware. All of that is changing now that I have discovered Collapsible Kitchenware by Good Cooking. First of all, let’s talk about the Collapsible Measuring Cups. These handy cups compress to fit flat in the drawer and take up very little space.
USA Pan - Quality Bakeware You Shouldn’t Be Without!
Hello, my name is Ann and I use crummy bakeware. There, I said it. What can I tell you? I’m a Christmas Cookie Mom and the occasional dessert for a get-together baker. Because of my infrequent baking, I have never taken the time to invest in quality bakeware. Instead I’ve assembled a collection of cheap pans and baking sheets that warp, stain, and allow my baked goods to adhere in a way that all the soaking in the world can’t clean.

Making Love-and Nations
A spray of fine twigs and a bud had been tied up with string. Powder dry, faint imaginings of color tinged the otherwise sepia remains. Maybe the stems were once a sprig of cedar, or lavender. The bud was crushed almost flat—a ghost of a red rose. Then I read the paper’s notation: “Presented to Mrs Mary B. Ross By Mrs Madison the widow of Ex President [James] Madison.” The file is dated Sept. 2, 1844, the day of Stapler’s marriage to John Ross.
