Bars On Broadway That Are Still Awesome

Celebrities have taken over Broadway and transformed it into country Disneyland, so it can be hard to remember what it used to be-a place to drink, dance, and discover a wealth of untapped talent. Today, the amount of boots in the less-than-one-mile stretch of bars rivals the stock at Boot Barn, bachelorette parties have descended en masse, and a simple vodka and water costs $16. Many places don't let musicians play their own music anymore, and some even make them stick to a standard song list.

Tin Roof - Review - Downtown - Nashville - The Infatuation

photo credit: Ann Walczak Tin Roof has a decent stage right by the windows so you can hear what's playing before you walk in and is furnished like a well-worn-out old-school diner. Shots are prevalent and served in little medicine dosage cups, and tables and chairs are falling apart. Sometimes people dance, sometimes they just eat wings, but you can count on whatever band they've hired to be worth your time and a solidly cheap(ish) happy hour every day until 6 pm.

Layla's Honky Tonk - Review - Downtown - Nashville - The Infatuation

photo credit: Ann Walczak We are happy to report that "stomping the boards" at Layla's Honky Tonk is still a real thing, as long as you go outside of peak hours, when there's room on the floor in front of the stage to do so. Many of the bands conjure true Americana, complete with steel guitars and upright basses.
