Alabama Democrats on Aug. 8 elected Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton of Greensboro party chair amid calls for the organization to take advantage of the most promising electoral landscape for state Democrats in years. Singleton got 165 votes (72.7%) over current chair Randy Kelley, who got 62 votes (27.3%) in a vote in which the 200-plus members of the State Democratic Executive (SDEC) voted by holding up pieces of paper with "vote" printed on them while other members walked around to count.
