Mixed‐methods research in medical education: Lessons from a meta‐study of methodological practice
1 INTRODUCTION Mixed-methods research (MMR) is an established approach to inquiry across a wide range of disciplines, and although a recent AMEE guide to MMR stated that ‘Interest in MMR is only recently emerging in HPE’,1 (p767) this was not our experience as individual researchers, journal editors and reviewers. In fact, when we conducted a quick scan of the literature, we found MMR articles in medical education (ME) dating back to the 1990s.
Sliding Doors: Pivotal Research Decisions and Their Influence on Exploring Sensitive Topics
This paper is the third in a series that qualitatively explores sensitive topics in health professions education. In Paper 1, MacLeod and colleagues [1] proposed strategies for generating rich data when participants are invited to share traumatic or emotionally fraught experiences. The authors suggest multiple methodological approaches for researching sensitive topics, advising researchers to design studies that attend to accessibility, respect and participants' and researchers' emotions.
(Dis)embodiment and medical education: How feminist organizational theories can help us think differently about gender
Medical schools are places of science, scholarship and service; in other words, they are complex organizations. With their multiple mandates and inherent complexities, the struggle to balance sometimes contradictory priorities is apparent. Among a host of other concerns, issues of gender may appear less pressing. At first glance, the numbers look good.

How a plan to land £100m of cocaine on a Highland beach went wrong
Thirty-five years ago, one drug dealer believed he had a fool proof plan to smuggle uncut Colombian cocaine directly into Scotland. Recruiting a gang of fellow Scots, Julian Chisholm proposed taking the drugs by ship across the Atlantic to a remote Highland beach, and then by road to central Scotland for distribution. He successfully pitched his idea to South America's Cali Cartel, one of the world's most dangerous crime organisations.
Study the past if you would define the future: Historical methods in medical education scholarship
1 INTRODUCTION Our title is a quotation from the Analects of Kong Fuzi (known in the West as ‘Confucius’) that reflects the principle that if we live in a perpetual present then, not only are our lives and the potential of our lives diminished, we cannot engage meaningfully with the future. It should not therefore be a controversial assertion to say that history should play an important role in academic inquiry in medical education.
Examining How Postpartum Videoconferencing Support Sessions Can Facilitate Connections between Parents: A Poststructural and Sociomaterial Analysis
1. Introduction The journey of becoming a parent can be a challenging experience, filled with a myriad of changes and emotions, as well as isolation and loneliness [1]. To cope with these stressors, most new parents seek out support and information from a variety of sources, including public health, parenting support groups, community centres, family, and friends [1,2].
Disembodied, dehumanised but safe and feasible: The social‐spatial flow of a pandemic OSCE
Data analysis Interviews were digitally audio-recorded for later transcription and then anonymised throughout the transcription process. Transcripts were entered into the qualitative data analysis software NVivo v12.0 (QRS International Pty Ltd, Doncaster, Victoria, Australia) to facilitate data management and coding.
A meta‐study analysing the discourses of discourse analysis in health professions education
1 INTRODUCTION Depending on who you talk to, discourse analysis is, variously, a methodology, a set of methods or a conceptual or critical position taken with respect to methods. Quite what a discourse is has also been interpreted in many ways.

Why unproven IVF add-ons could cost you a chance of having a baby
Every year, more than 13,000 Victorians seek help from IVF clinics to try for a baby. Many of these people will tell you it can be an expensive and gruelling process involving invasive procedures, time off work, and emotional highs and lows. Another thing that makes fertility treatment challenging is the extensive range of extras you can pay for in the hope it will improve your chance of success.

#BoringSelfCare Is the Instagram Hashtag You Never Knew You Needed
There are many ways to practice self-care. Often, when self-care is promoted, the focus is on relaxing tasks like taking a bath, cuddling up on the couch, doing some gentle yoga or meditating. However, not all self-care is enjoyable. Sometimes, the best way to really take care of yourself is to cross off the more boring items on your to-do list.
