TRPM2 channel increases cell viability of triple negative breast cancer cells following chemotherapy through altered mitochondrial calcium homeostasis
Background and objective Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype characterized by the absence of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2 overexpression. Its poor prognosis arises from a combination of factors, including the lack of targeted therapeutic options, intrinsic tumor aggressiveness, and high recurrence and metastasis rates. Chemotherapy remains the mainstay of treatment; however, drug resistance poses a major clinical challenge.

A scoring model integrating CXCL9, GDF15, FGF21, and NfL, predicts long-term mortality in type 2 diabetes: a retrospective study - Cardiovascular Diabetology
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a chronic inflammatory condition strongly linked to aging and higher long-term mortality. In this retrospective study of individuals with T2D, we identified a composite biomarker score derived from four circulating proteins—CXCL9, NfL, GDF15, and FGF21—which reflect distinct biological pathways, including inflammation, neuronal injury, stress signaling, and metabolic dysfunction.

Malignant mesothelioma-associated inflammatory microenvironment promotes tumor progression via GPNMB - Journal of Translational Medicine
Abstract Tumor-Associated Macrophages (TAMs) are the main immune component of the tumor stroma with heterogeneous functional activities, predominantly suppressing the immune response and promoting tumor progression, also via secretion of different factors. Among these, GPNMB (Glycoprotein non-metastatic B) is usually associated with disease progression in several tumor types.
Triglyceride glucose index predicts long-term mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes - Cardiovascular Diabetology
Our study provides comprehensive insights into the relationship between the TyG index, a marker of insulin resistance, and its association with all-cause mortality and diabetes-related complications in individuals with T2D, over a 16.9-year follow-up. The prognostic significance of the TyG index for all-cause mortality was a central finding of the study.
Social cognition in basal ganglia pathologies: Theory of Mind in Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases
Theory of mind (ToM) is the ability to predict the behaviour of others by inferring their cognitive and affective states. The literature suggests that different neural substrates within the basal ganglia are involved in the affective (ventral striatum) and cognitive (dorsal striatum) components of Theory of Mind (ToM). We investigated ToM dysfunction in two different basal ganglia pathologies, Huntington’s disease (HD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) in their early stages.

Risk factors and significance of post-operative edema in Parkinson Disease patients submitted to deep brain stimulation. A ten-year case series - Neurological Sciences
Abstract Peri-electrode edema after deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery for Parkinson Disease (PD) has been reported in up to 100% of cases. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear, with most papers suggesting a benign course. The risk factors are also poorly defined. We aimed at defining the incidence rate, the clinical significance and the predictive factors of peri-electrode edema in patients undergoing DBS for PD.

Syndecan 4 is a marker of endothelial inflammation in pathological aging and predicts long-term cardiovascular outcomes in type 2 diabetes - Diabetology & Metabolic Syndrome
Abstract Endothelial cellular senescence is emerging as a key mechanism of age-related vascular dysfunction. Disruption of the endothelium glycocalyx and shedding of the syndecan (SDC) ectodomains have been associated with several age-related diseases. Although SDC4 is highly expressed in endothelial cells, its levels and shedding in senescent endothelial cells and vascular endothelial dysfunction associated with aging are still unknown.
Vitali Theorems for Varying Measures
1. Introduction The Vitali convergence theorem [1], which owes his name to the Italian mathematician Vitali, is a generalization of the Dominated convergence theorem developed by Lebesgue. It is a characterization of the convergence of a sequence ( f n ) n in L p ( m ) in terms of uniform integrability and convergence in the m-measure of ( f n ) n .

Efficacy and safety of irreversible electroporation in unresectable perihilar cholangiocarcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis
The prognosis of patients with perihilar-cholangiocarcinoma (PHC) is poor, with the majority presenting with unresectable disease at diagnosis. Palliative chemotherapy (CHT) is the standard treatment for unresectable PHC. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) has been introduced as a novel ablation technique, working predominantly nonthermal. This review aims to analyse the efficacy and safety of IRE in treating unresectable PHC.
