The views of Chilean filmmakers, Cortes and Lelio, on their responsibilities with violence on screen
By Anna Stephens, Third Year, History A few months ago I was living in Australia, and I went to see Deadpool 2 (2018) after being invited by a friend. I can’t deny that the film has some really great moments, a funny script and actors I respect a lot, yet I struggled to sit through it. At first I thought there was something wrong with me; while others were deeply engaged, at times I was shielding my eyes and hiding behind my hoodie.
It’s Time to Support Mothers, Stop Abandoning Them to Abortion
As women, all of us have dreams and goals for the future. For many of us, these plans include motherhood and family, career aspirations, and hopes of making a much-needed difference in the world. But how many of us, when asked to share our dreams for the future, would look someone in the eyes and say: “my dream is to have an abortion?” Statistics show few women – if any – would give this response.
Traditional ecological knowledge isn’t dying - it’s adapting and transforming (Commentary)
Traditional ecological knowledge in the central Peruvian Amazon is not simply being lost to time, but is rather adapting and evolving to a new modern context. Ecotourism is providing important job opportunities for Peruvian Amazonian young adults. This post is a commentary. The views expressed are those of the author, and not necessarily Mongabay. See All Key Ideas Several years ago, I took a solo trip to the Huánuco region of the central Peruvian Amazon.
Things at Work: How Things Contribute to Performing Work
INTRODUCTION Although work performance involves both humans and things (e.g., algorithms, tools, instruments, raw materials, etc.), the dominant focus has been how humans (through their competence, motivation, job satisfaction, etc.) engage in work performance (e.g., Carpani et al., 2017; Denisi and Smith, 2014; Gittell et al., 2010; Knight and Parker, 2021; Orlikowski, 2007).

Empowering Both Mom and Baby With Comprehensive Support
When a woman faces an unexpected pregnancy, often her mind is filled with questions and fears for the future: How will I take care of this baby? How will I provide food, clothing, and basic necessities for this baby, much less myself? Where will we live? How can I escape an abusive partner? How can I continue my career or finish my degree with a baby on the way?
Living a life with fears and love | Tell Your Story Original
The idea of telling my story seemed, at first, to be too ordinary to interest other readers. Then, after telling myself my story, I realized that someone might identify with it. I am in my late 80’s now, but I can still recall life as a very young child sitting at a big table, surrounded by grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins. And then, it stopped for a scary, long time. The war to end all wars began; my uncles were called to sea, where their lives were lost.

Defining ‘failure’
I start a full-time job on Monday. I’m well aware that many people would see that as a success, and I’m even more aware that what I’ve accomplished since 2017 – six published novels – is also a big success. And yet. And yet, it hasn’t been successful enough to keep my finances stable. In the last two years I’ve taken on more and more writing projects in a desperate attempt to fill the financial void and it just hasn’t paid off, pun not intended.
Marvel Novels Sampler 2021
Review by Chris H, Reviewer Last updated on 6 Dec 2021 My Recommendation A few samples from the latest crop of novels inspired by the hugely successful comics and movie franchise. Although some of the prose was occasionally a little too purple for me these offerings should prove perfectly enjoyable for all True Believers and fans of the genre. Buy this Book on

The Art of Ayurveda
By Anna Stephens, Third Year, History The Croft Magazine// Anna Stephens shares how this holistic ancient Indian system of medicine has helped her. As a child, I was born with serious health issues. I was allergic to more than half the food I ate, and didn’t gain any weight whatsoever for several months. One of my problems was that my skin was covered in eczema, and I had to be wrapped like a mummy from head to toe to stop myself scratching.

A Gran(d) Canarian Adventure
By Anna Stephens Third Year, History Anna Stephens shares her experience adventuring on the largest of the Canary Islands. From our small apartment next to the sea, we walked to the town of Galdar and back every day along dusty roads dotted with wild cacti and vegetation. Along haphazard paths and roads we came home with the afternoon sun painting the path ahead of us gold. My flat skater shoes allowed me to bounce from brick to brick, and our skin glowed in the fading light.
Mindfulness, Yoga and Meditation: tips for feeling more in control
Anna Stephens, Third Year History As the Tao says, 'stop thinking and end your problems.' Anna discusses some activities she practices in order to think less and live more in the present. Mindfulness: stepping back from negative thought cycles Anxiety is like when you're trying to untangle a hair band from your hair, the more frustrated you become the harder you pull, and the harder you pull the more tangled your hair gets.
The views of Chilean filmmakers, Cortes and Lelio, on their responsibilities with violence on screen
By Anna Stephens, Third Year, History Back in October, Epigram Film & TV produced a series of articles debating violence in film. On her travels, History student Anna Stephens has seen the issue on a global scale and here she talks to two established Chilean directors about how artistic freedom and social responsibility intersect. A few months ago I was living in Australia, and I went to see Deadpool 2 (2018) after being invited by a friend.
First impressions of the 'land Down Under': a Brit's perspective
Anna Stephens discusses her first impressions of Australia, and the differences she has noticed whilst studying abroad. She explores many aspects of Australia; from the incredible scenery, to the country's tumultuous history, and how this has impacted the way of life. I grew up with idealised notions of Australia as a dry, deserty landscape scrawling with bushes, the occasional indigenous community and tribes of kangaroos.
Priest of Bones Author Peter McLean Picks His 5 Favorite Fantasy Debuts
Priest of Bones isn’t my first novel–it’s actually my fourth–but it is my first real fantasy book. In changing genres from contemporary crime fantasy to proper “swords and horses” fantasy, I’m reaching a whole new audience, and I now feel like a debut author all over again, with all the excitement and nerves that brings with it. With that in mind, I’d like to celebrate four of my favorite fantasy debuts from the last couple of years, and a forthcoming book for you to look forward to as well.
