To address this, we developed a machine learning-based automated seizure detection system. We collected 3140 hours of aEEG recordings from 48 patients, including 15 with documented seizures (88 total events).

Asystole or bradyarrhythmia can develop years after VNS implantation. Arrhythmia can present as new cardiac symptoms post-implantation or episodes of loss of consciousness/falls, which may be mistaken to be seizures. Vigilant cardiac monitoring is recommended in patients with pre-existing cardiac conditions or on antiseizure medications that can affect the cardiac rhythm.
