Anne Washburn by Eve Bromberg
ANON (2026), Anne Washburn’s newest play, directed by Anne Kauffman at MCC Theatre, is about QAnon. Even more than that, however, the play is about the unlikely porousness of spectrums. Inspired by Washburn’s own experience online, where she witnessed the slow adoption of conspiratorial beliefs by a bunch of well-intentioned, health-conscious liberals, ANON takes on the slipperiness of ideology in a story told across two households.
Jerry Lieblich and Paul Lazar by David Driver
Jerry Lieblich’s The Barbarians (2025) is a freewheeling theatrical adventure that careens through multiple timeframes, realities, and spheres. The play utilizes dense chunks of language, much of it nonsensical, to ultimately land at a place of heartfelt reflection. Painfully funny and utterly terrifying, The Barbarians doesn’t hesitate to ask a lot of both its audience and its performers; it also gives much in return.
Afterwards: Idealised Befores and (Un)avoidable Futures
Seminar This lecture discusses my current play, Afterwards; a thriller about three migrants fleeing a near-future Britain that has been ravaged by national catastrophe. As the trio remember, revise and reframe their pasts, it becomes clear that memory can be distorted, and that the dream of an idealised return to ‘before’ is a weapon in the battle for control.

Over 75 years pass as the story is passed on from one survivor to the next in this new post–electric world. By the end of this journey, something powerful and utterly original emerges.

The power of stories is at the heart of 'Mr. Burns'

Reflections on the Civilians' Met Museum Residency
In visual art, the label “negative space” refers to the empty space around a subject. It is possible for a subject to seem accurately portrayed, but the space around the subject may not ring true. I was reminded of the term while working on a new play at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Review: Cowabunga! 'Mr. Burns' a wild and funny apocalyptic romp
It's the end of the world as we know it and we desperately want to feel fine. Indeed in "Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play," we feel the distinct need to escape into a mindless binge of doughnuts, doggies with fluffy tails and a busload of Duff beer. Anne Washburn's wildly brave Homeric odyssey may be steeped in the pop cultural folklore of "The Simpsons" but it also palpably taps into the bleak apocalyptic tenor of the zeitgeist today.
