Massachusetts State Police are asking everyone on the Esplanade in Boston to take shelter immediately due to potential thunderstorms, according to a statement. Thousands of people flock to the Esplanade along the Charles River for the annual Boston Pops Fourth of July performance and fireworks. Spectators on the Boston side of the Charles River are urged to evacuate to the Boston Common Garage and Storrow Drive, according to a WCVB report.

Roads surrounding Maverick Square in East Boston will be "heavily restricted" to vehicle traffic starting at 6 p.m. Saturday to accommodate the large crowds expected for Fourth of July celebrations, according to a Boston Police Department statement. Traffic restrictions will include rolling closures, limited turn options and significant delays on connecting routes, including Sumner, Maverick and Meridian streets, according to the statement.
