As Londoners, we have often experienced (but probably turned a blind eye to) the adverse effects of this often invisible reality. But since nine-year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah from Lewisham became the first person in the UK to have air pollution listed as the cause of death, it is clear we need to take action. Euston Road has historically been Camden’s most polluted monitoring site.

Man who lived inside iron lung learned new way of breathing A man who lived inside an iron lung for more than 70 years learned a new way of breathing. This week, it was announced that Paul Alexander, who achieved fame across the world as the ‘man in the iron lung’, had died at the age of 78. Alexander had lived inside a 600lbs iron lung for seven decades after polio left him paralysed in 1952, when he was just six-years-old.
