AUSTIN (Nexstar) — Summer camp operators in Texas’ Hill Country were on high alert for severe flooding Wednesday and Thursday. This week’s flooding has had striking similarities to the catastrophic floods on July 4, 2025, which topped the banks of many of the same rivers. That storm took the lives of at least 138 people, 119 of which were in Kerr County. At Camp Mystic, near Hunt, Texas, 25 girls and two counselors died during the flood.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a Westlake High School graduate was killed in the flooding that swept across the Hill Country and other parts of Texas on Thursday, his family is now speaking out. Mark Steward was one of two victims who died in severe weather that swept through the Texas Hill Country, his family confirmed to KXAN investigators. Steward had graduated from Westlake High School in 1979. Mark brother, Stephen Steward, flew in from Alabama to be with his big brother’s family after the tragedy.
