Yet, while technology has certainly bridged the gap somewhat between creators and potential audiences, all those risks still remain.

Over the years of interviewing countless DJs and producers in the Salt Lake City scene, one name tends to repeatedly come up as someone that every person should know: Ian Hiscock. He’s a man of many hats, with an incredible career in the local (and national) music industry. For the past 10 years, he was involved with marketing, public relations, artist relations and talent-buying for V2 Presents.

The west side’s Poplar Grove neighborhood boasts Salt Lake City’s oldest library building, the Chapman Branch at 577 S. 900 West. Since its opening in 1918, following a donation from Andrew Carnegie, the Classical Revival-style building has been in continuous operation ever since. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the Carnegie Foundation has distributed $10,000 donations to surviving Carnegie library systems nationwide.
