I did a residency in Savannah, GA, and could see Columbia, place of my birth, from there. Nothing called to me across the water.” As a family, they moved a lot, but Elison always found her way to libraries and stores with discounted books.

She continued to spend time between Santa Barbara and Daejeon, South Korea. Kim attended an international school in Korea before returning to New Jersey at age eleven. As a kid, Kim grew up surrounded by her parents’ prodigious collection of books.
