Immune aging biomarkers for clinical trials
Abstract Aging profoundly remodels the immune system, impairing defense, repair and homeostatic function across tissues. Because the immune system operates in every organ, its deterioration has been proposed to drive or exacerbate systemic dysfunction and accelerate overall biological aging, making it an attractive biomarker and target for geroscience-guided trials. Despite this central role, there is no consensus on how to quantify immune aging, especially in clinical trials.
Epoxy-oxylipins direct monocyte fate in inflammatory resolution in humans - Nature Communications
Abstract The role of cytochrome P450-derived epoxy-oxylipins and their metabolites in human inflammation and resolution is unknown. We report that epoxy-oxylipins are present in blood of healthy, male volunteers at baseline and following intradermal injection of UV-killed Escherichia coli, an experimental model of acute resolving inflammation.
Enhancing immunity during ageing by targeting interactions within the tissue environment - Nature Reviews Drug Discovery
Abstract Immunity declines with age. This results in a higher risk of age-related diseases, diminished ability to respond to new infections and reduced response to vaccines. The causes of this immune dysfunction are cellular senescence, which occurs in both lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissue, and chronic, low-grade inflammation known as ‘inflammageing’. In this Review article, we highlight how the processes of inflammation and senescence drive each other, leading to loss of immune function.
