The one thing I remember Alex Trebek saying to me from my time on “Jeopardy!” was a typically Canadian, self-effacing take on his status as an international household name: The host’s job is to get out of the way and let the contestants be the star of the show. Of course, for contestants like me who end up succeeding at that goal and finding “Jeopardy!” a path not only to fortune but fame, that can be a mixed blessing.
