Interview

How is social media changing news?

Social media provides Black and Latino journalists an opportunity to be heard by a broader community by circumventing industry gatekeeping.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means speaking truth to power, knowing when there are no "two sides" to a discussion (racism, genocide, etc), and educating the public.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

Nikole Hannah-Jones

Why did you become a journalist?

I felt the stories of far too many are not being told. To give them a voice. To use my platform to uplift other great journalists.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

The narratives provided by the government and legacy news aren't always the full story. Dig deeper and find the missing context.
