A Waymo self-driving taxi struck a student near a Santa Monica elementary school last week, . The incident triggered a federal safety investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Santa Monica police responded to the Jan. 23 incident near Grant Elementary School near 24th and Pearl streets, the Los Angeles Times reports. Responders from the fire department evaluated the child, who was released with minor injuries.
