Last month, Mark Gresser completed a 6,023km, 331-day walk across the Australian mainland, between the country’s westernmost and easternmost points. The Australian began at Steep Point, Western Australia, on July 6, 2025, and reached Cape Byron, New South Wales, on June 1, 2026, after 11 months. His route took him through Lambert’s Centre, the geographic midpoint of Australia.

Totally exposed to the power of the North Pacific, Canadian kayakers Finn Steiner and Pascal Smyth kayaked completely around Moresby Island, part of the Haida Gwaii archipelago off the coast of British Columbia. The pair paddled the 475km route last month in 13 days, despite originally only planning to do the exposed western side of the island. “We had great weather windows and felt strong, so we kept pushing as we felt fit,” explained Steiner.

A New One-Time Logistics Provider for North Pole Expeditions

A new Australian-registered company is planning to establish one-time access to the North Pole for expeditions and scientific teams in the spring of 2027. SIX, led by geologist and polar logistics expert Dr. Jonathan Bell, hopes to ease the backlog of adventurers who have been unable to reach the Pole since 2018. Until recently, the only route to the North Pole was through Barneo, the Russian-operated drifting ice station.
