Lawns sometimes get a bad rap, given the time and inputs that they require, but I don’t think anyone can argue that a nice, lush, green lawn welcomes folks in. It shows care and pride in one’s home. When maintained conservatively and efficiently, a solid yard can boost curb appeal and create cooler, cleaner spaces for families and communities, whether it’s in neighborhoods, parks, or around commercial properties. NG Turf shares with us how healthy lawns help the environment.

A: John recently wrote in and provided this picture. He says when he bought the lemon tree last year, it had a lot of blooms on it. His theory is that the store had applied a lot of fertilizer to promote blooms so it’d sell. He may be right. In my opinion, the slow onset of new leaves reflects a need for nitrogen. If his above theory is correct, the nursery would have used a fertilizer higher in potassium to promote all those blooms.

A: UGA Entomologist and Public Health Specialist Elmer Gray joined me in-studio at the end of May, and we had a great conversation about mosquitoes. He says mosquito prevention requires diligence and hard work. “While there are no known silver bullets to mosquito prevention and control, I stand by the approach of eliminating all forms of standing water on your property. Talk with your neighbors or community members about eliminating mosquito habitats.
