Laura Kelly is asking a federal judge on Thursday to throw out the U.S. Department of Justice’s lawsuit seeking to end a Kansas law that allows certain students without lawful immigration status to qualify for in-state tuition at public colleges and universities. On June 24, U.S. Department of Justice sued the State of Kansas, arguing a 2004 law that allows certain undocumented students to qualify for in-state tuition violates federal immigration law.

The donation is part of Subaru’s nationwide initiative to provide encouragement and support to individuals facing cancer treatment.

A second suspect is set to go to trial next week. The jury found Demari Owens, now age 20, guilty of premeditated first-degree murder for the killing of Ricky R. Washington Jr., 45, of Topeka. A second suspect in the case, Du’Jontez Owens, 24, of Topeka, is awaiting trial.
