Published Jun. 10, 2026at12:00pm In early March, I was an extra in a scene of a short film that was rumored to be a star-studded production, with cameos from Francis Ford Coppola, Dave Eggers, Willie Brown, Dominique Crenn, Joe Montana, and Stephen Curry. It’s true, although I didn’t cross paths with any of them. Instead, I found myself on the grass in Dolores Park, sandwiched between a wild animal and his trainer. Almost by chance, I was thrust into one of the most poignant moments of my life.

All Day I Dream (opens in new tab) has inspired a devoted fanbase of house music lovers since the early 2010s when British DJ and producer Lee Burridge created it as a Brooklyn rooftop party.

In the more than a quarter-century since I came out, my professional life has been intertwined with the LGBTQ+ movement. I’ve chanted. I’ve sat in. I’ve marched. I’ve held candlelit vigils. I served as San Francisco Pride’s director of communications during the pandemic — as it happens, the only two-year period in the organization’s five-decade history during which there was no parade. I jumped onto a pile of hundreds of rainbow flags before they were installed on lampposts up and down Market Street.
