Permian Basin Honor Flight in Washington, D.C.
Members of my Washington, D.C. staff were honored to greet veterans from the Permian Basin Honor Flight this week and present each veteran with a flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol. For many of these heroes, this trip was their first chance to see the monuments dedicated in their honor. It was also a long-overdue moment of recognition for the veterans who never received the heroes' welcome they deserved when they came home.

Dean of AFA’s Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, for a panel conversation at the annual Air, Space, and Cyber Conference. During our conversation, I made the case for why the U.S. Air Force needs more of its veterans on Capitol Hill and invited more air and space professionals to join me in Congress. I also advocated for increased investment in airpower.

Our intelligence-sharing capabilities are faltering
OPINION: As we look back 25 years this month on what led to the worst terrorist attacks on U.S. soil in our history, we should remember one of the clearest lessons from that tragic day: Intelligence failures happen when agencies operate in silos and critical information does not reach the right people in time. Disturbingly, some of the structural challenges that existed prior to 9/11 bear a striking resemblance to those facing the intelligence enterprise today.

Reflecting on the 25th Anniversary of 9/11
by August Pfluger on September 11, 2026 at 9:47 AM Twenty-five years ago, our nation watched in horror as nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken in an act of unimaginable evil. Today, we remember the American souls we lost, whose absence is still felt by their families across our country. We also honor the firefighters, police officers, and other first responders who ran toward danger that day, and the generation of service members who have since answered the call to defend our freedom.

Voting to Keep the Government Open
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government through mid-December. House Republicans came to Washington to govern, and we did just that by keeping the government open and avoiding another Democrat-manufactured shutdown despite the Left trying to hold the process hostage.
Pfluger, Fletcher Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Study Strategic Petroleum Reserve Modernization
Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) and Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) introduced the 21st Century Strategic Petroleum Reserve Act (21st Century SPR Act) to direct the U.S. Department of Energy to issue a public report on opportunities to modernize the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). The SPR has served as America's insurance policy against energy supply disruptions for nearly half a century, but its infrastructure is aging. Modernizing the SPR is a national security imperative.
Green lawsuits threaten America’s energy future
OPINION: Public policy works best when it is transparent and grounded in economic reality. Government fails and breaks trust with the people when it rewrites the rules after the fact and tries to impose new liabilities on industries for conduct that was legal, regulated and often encouraged at the time it occurred. That debate is now playing out in Congress as we consider legislation designed to prevent states from using litigation and retroactive liability laws to target energy producers.
Honoring the Thirteen American Service Members Lost at Abbey Gate
by August Pfluger on August 30, 2026 at 1:31 PM This week marks five years since the Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul, one of the darkest days of the Afghanistan withdrawal, when 13 American service members made the ultimate sacrifice. I'm proud to have joined Congressman Matt Van Epps (TN-07) in cosponsoring a resolution honoring their memory and holding the Biden-Harris administration accountable for an abject failure that never should have happened.
Christmas Opportunities at the White House
First Lady Melania Trump recently announced the opening of Christmas applications for volunteer and performer positions at the White House. While the White House is a stunning and historic landmark to visit year-round, it is truly breathtaking to see during the holidays. I am thrilled that President Trump and First Lady Melania are continuing the tradition of bringing in Americans from across the country to celebrate this special season.
Five Years Since Withdrawal from Afghanistan
This Saturday marks the fifth anniversary of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Although I am thankful that our service members made it home, the execution was a disaster. Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment Chairman Gary Palmer (AL-06), and Congressman Jay Obernolte introduced a legislative package to strip away burdensome EPA waivers handed to California under previous Democratic Administrations. These waivers let unelected California regulators impose emissions standards stricter than federal law, allowing one state to dictate standards that have consequences for consumers and businesses nationwide.
Reminder: Every Democrat Voted Against Tax Cuts for American Families
July 4th marked the first anniversary of the Working Families Tax Cuts being signed into law. This landmark legislation extended the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts, all while preventing the largest tax hike in American history. House Passes National Defense Bill
This week, the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the legislative vehicle that funds the Department of War and other programs. Its passage is another decisive step toward President Trump's Peace Through Strength agenda and the restoration of America's military dominance. This bill invests in our lethality, arming our forces to deter or defeat any adversary who threatens our nation.
Canada's wildfire smoke is choking America — Congress must clear the air
This week, millions of Americans woke up to hazy skies and scratchy throats under air quality alerts, not because of anything happening in their own local communities or states, but because smoke from the hundreds of wildfires burning in Canada drifted across the border. Across the Atlantic seaboard to the Midwest, Americans were told to stay indoors. Seniors and people with respiratory conditions faced increased health risks.
Canada's wildfire smoke is choking America — Congress must clear the air
The best way to improve air quality across the country is to prevent these catastrophic events from happening This week, millions of Americans woke up to hazy skies and scratchy throats under air quality alerts, not because of anything happening in their own local communities or states, but because smoke from the hundreds of wildfires burning in Canada drifted across the border. Across the Atlantic seaboard to the Midwest, Americans were told to stay indoors.

House Passes Bill Making Daylight Saving Time Permanent
by August Pfluger on July 19, 2026 at 9:36 PM I was proud to vote in favor of the Sunshine Protection Act to make Daylight Saving Time Permanent. Twice a year, we put families and communities through an unnecessary disruption of changing clocks. Research has shown a measurable spike in car accidents in the days immediately following the spring time change. By ending the clock-switching once and for all, we can protect our families from disruption, keep our roads safer, and enjoy more daylight.
Pressing the WNBA on Violence Against Caitlin Clark
I led members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) in a letter to the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, pressing for greater accountability following repeated acts of physical violence on the court toward Caitlin Clark. America's best days are made, not given
U.S. Rep. August Pfluger Courtesy U.S. Rep. August Pfluger Two hundred fifty years ago, a handful of patriots bet everything on the idea that freedom was worth fighting for. They had no guarantee it would work. They had no precedent to point to and no safety net beneath them. What they had was a creed: the conviction, stated plainly in the document they signed, that human beings are endowed by their Creator with rights that no government grants and no government can take away.
GUEST VIEW: America’s best days are made, not given
By Rep. August Pfluger Two hundred and fifty years ago, a handful of patriots bet everything on the idea that freedom was worth fighting for. They had no guarantee it would work. They had no precedent to point to and no safety net beneath them. What they had was a creed, the conviction, stated plainly in the document they signed, that human beings are endowed by their Creator with rights that no government grants and no government can take away. That was the founding wager.

Funding Federal Law Enforcement to Keep Americans Safe
For years, the Left surrendered our border to chaos and held crucial funding hostage every chance they got. Through the Secure America Act, Republicans are delivering strong border security measures to keep communities safe through the remainder of President Trump's term. This bill invests $70 billion in the Border Patrol agents and ICE officers taking down cartels, stopping human traffickers, and keeping bad actors off America’s streets.
