BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - As students in Warren County prepare for fall break, SOKY Patriots Inc. is ensuring that those students do not go hungry while at home. The Backpack Food Program, initiated by SOKY Patriots Inc., is designed to combat hunger among students in Warren County. The organization collects food donations in the community, builds bags to fill with food, and then delivers those bags to schools in the county.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - La Nina has the potential to bring warmer and wetter than average conditions this fall and winter. La Nina a part of the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Cycle creates cooler than average temperatures in the eastern pacific ocean. Those cooler ocean temperatures cause a shift in the jet stream, forcing it further north. While the jet stream is forced further north, warm moist air is directed to the the northwest.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Kentucky is not the only state feeling the harsh effects of the dry weather. 43 states are currently under drought status. January through April South Central Kentucky saw the wettest stretch of weather in over 130 years. That quickly came to a stop later this summer, Kentucky then saw the driest August since 1895. The effects of the drought are being felt across the country, with 43 states under drought status, and over 155 million crops being impacted nationwide.
