LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins that have occurred since early July. On July 30, First Division Detectives with the Louisville Metro Police Department, with assistance from the University of Louisville Police Department (ULPD) and multiple healthcare security partners, located and arrested the juvenile suspect. Investigators had observed the suspect breaking into parked vehicles in the area since mid-July.

New Kentucky law to change reading teaching methods, target teacher misconduct
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — A Kentucky law that was passed during the 2026 General Assembly session will change how schools teach students how to read. House Bill 253, signed by Gov. Andy Beshear in April, also addresses teacher misconduct. HB 253 effectively bans teaching reading through visual cues. School districts must begin phasing out the “three-cueing teaching method,” and it must be out of the classroom completely by 2029.

One injured in collision between 2 cars and train
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Around 7:56 a.m. Friday morning, a report of a collision between a train and a vehicle was called in to emergency services. The crash happened at Six Mile Ln. near Westwood Farms Drive. According to LMPD, the train was stopped on the tracks for an unknown reason. Traffic in the area was also stopped. A van struck a vehicle that was stopped because of the train and pushed it into the side of a train car. MetroSafe said that one injury was reported.

At least 34 die after breach of border between Morocco and Spain
CEUTA, Spain (AP) — Some 60,000 migrants have entered Spain’s Ceuta from Morocco in the past 24 hours, Ceuta’s president says. That is equivalent to 70% of the city’s regular population. At least 34 migrants have died in the process. “The situation that Ceuta is going through is absolutely unsustainable,” said Juan Jesús Vivas on Friday. The border crisis boiled over Thursday and continued on Friday with security forces clashing with migrants on the Moroccan side of the border.
Woman arrested after multiple trash, garage fires in Beechmont
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A woman has been arrested after Louisville Fire Department responded to multiple fires in an alley in the Beechmont neighborhood Thursday. Christina Hargrove is in custody and facing charges of two counts of second degree arson and eight counts of wanton endangerment as a result of the fires. Crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Ottawa Avenue just after 8 p.m. and arrived to find several detached garages actively burning along with multiple trash fires in the area.
