What was your first job as a journalist?

I was asked to write an opinion piece for a scientific journal.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, while in school in Africa as a teenager.

How is social media changing news?

In many ways than the founders and supporters of such platforms would like to think.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Borat Sagdiyev, it has to him.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

For a scientist, journalism is the space where I can write for pleasure.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Big data analytics softwares.

What's your favorite social network?

LinkedIn.

Who do you wish followed you?

Many dead “thinkers” whom I can not name.

Why did you become a journalist?

I will tell you when I earn the title.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be inquisitive…

What's your favorite drink?

Wheat beer.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Piano or bicycle.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Too many short column writers to mention.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I am a racist because of my lack of enthusiasm and support for positive discrimination IN SCIENCE.
