On his birthday, Leo repealed COVID-era salary reductions imposed on certain Vatican employees under his predecessor, Pope Francis. Those austerity measures were adopted in 2021, when the pandemic devastated Vatican revenues and put serious financial pressure on the Holy See.

The latest Detroit News/WDIV poll in the race for Michigan's attorney general should be a political alarm bell for Democrat Eli Savit. Savit, the Washtenaw County prosecutor and Democratic nominee, leads Republican Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd, 36% to 35%. Nearly 29% of likely voters remain undecided. In other words, this race is essentially tied, but it shouldn't be. Not because Savit is somehow entitled to the office. No candidate is.
