Barb MacLean

In June we lost a pillar of our community, Barb MacLean, a brilliant fintech mind and a beloved colleague. A guest turned co-host on Breaking Banks and an invaluable member of Alloy Labs. She was truly special, she never hesitated to pay it forward or to speak truth, albeit in the most polite Canadian way, whether on podcasts or the stages of Finovate. Every week she curated a list of the most impactful things she had read and paired them with a song, publishing the Fintech Playlist.

By Kate Landreth, Education and Learning Lead at Family Caregivers of BC (FCBC) and Wendy Johnstone, Director of Programs and Innovation, FCBC Caregiving is often a winding path, with many twists and turns. From the FF Salon at Sibos 2023 we caught up with Barb MacLean, Head of Technology, at Coastal Community Bank to find out what makes her tick and why she’s passionate about the field she’s in. We hear about her journey from computing to business and the way she’s able to go beyond what some of the bigger banks can do when working with smaller community banks. MacLean talks about the importance of the fintech and finance community, which she is an active and visible part of.
