According to the statistic, 20–45 % of food was discarded in the process of production, harvesting, manufacturing, transportation, and final use, causing a yearly output of 1.6 billion tons of food waste on the world scale [1]. As a complex mixture of discarded rice/pastries, fruits, vegetables, meat and so on, the organic fraction and specific content of kitchen waste (KW) is heterogeneous.

2.1. The Existing and Planned WWTP of Antofagasta The existing CAS-WWTP has a treatment capacity of 120 L/s, capable to treat only approx. 10% of the wastewater generated in the city of Antofagasta. In the future, the municipal wastewater management system will be improved after the construction of a new WWTP.
