COVID‐19 illness: Different comorbidities may require different immunological therapeutic targets
Evidence before this study Uncontrolled studies showed some clinical benefit in different cohorts of severe-critical COVID-19 pneumonia, through targeting IL6, IL1 or GM-CSF. The SARS-CoV-2-induced cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is different from chimeric antigen receptor-modified T (CAR-T) cell therapy-associated one, in which IL6 and IL1 are the main players, while high plasma levels of IL6, IL8, GM-CSF, IL-10 and others have been demonstrated in SARS-CoV-2-induced CRS.
