From Lonely People to Connected Communities: Why Australia Needs a Social Connection Policy Agenda
Loneliness among young adults is no longer a fringe wellbeing concern – it is a fast-growing global public health issue with social and economic consequences that Australia cannot afford to ignore. While loneliness has often been framed as an individual problem, new evidence from Canberra’s Connect Up 2617 pilot shows that a holistic approach to social connection as a public good – not loneliness as a personal failing – can start to change communities.

Abstract Background Children with epilepsy are often presented to Community Emergency Departments (CEDs) for acute treatment of status epilepticus (SE). Timely medical management is imperative to prevent morbidity and mortality, and adherence to evidence-based guidelines improves outcomes for high stakes/low frequency events. Barriers to guideline adherent management in the CED setting are understudied; in-situ simulation (ISS) can be used to identify gaps in care for events such as pediatric SE.

1 INTRODUCTION The clinical high-risk syndrome for psychosis (CHR-P), also known as the At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) or ultra-high risk (UHR) state, was first conceptualized 25 years ago (Yung et al., 1996) and has provided an influential paradigm for early detection and intervention in psychosis. CHR-P syndrome patients are youth and young adults who are symptomatic and impaired and also at risk for developing frankly psychotic disorders (Woods et al., 2001; Woods et al., 2021).
